Cops: Matthew Apperson arrested after shooting involving George Zimmerman

Source: Orlando Sentinel

Lake Mary Police arrested a Winter Springs man Friday on charges related to a shooting involving George Zimmerman earlier this week.

Matthew Apperson, 35, turned himself in Friday evening, police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett said.

Apperson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and firing a deadly missile into an occupied conveyance.

Police have released a 911 call from the shooting involving George Zimmerman, which sent the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer to the hospital with minor injuries.

"After conducting numerous interviews throughout the week, detectives determined that Mr. Apperson did intentionally fire his weapon into the vehicle occupied by George Zimmerman without provocation," Gillett said in a statement.

the bullet, after passing thru zimmies car, struck an innocent bystander? Visualize, if you will, the irony that if Mr. Apperson is found (or pleads) guilty, depending on the charge, he very well could lose his ability to lawfully own/carry a firearm, while the zimster retains his.

If he pleads guilty it does not go to trial, if he pleads not guilty then there is a trial.

In a trial witnesses are subpoenaed to testify and if this went to trial Zimmerman would almost certainly be issued a subpoena. The fact that Zimmerman is not on trial means that he can't plead the fifth.

if compelled to testify in a criminal proceeding Zimmerman could, most certainly, assert his 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination. It does not matter that he is not charged in this case.

Some people have such a "hate-fest" regarding Zimmerman that they repeatedly ignore the law and the facts in evidence. He seriously should have gotten some counseling once the trial was concluded; he's "damaged" at this point and in some ways is his own worst enemy.

Let's say I'm Zimmerman's co-defendant in a criminal case (for argument's sake, Armed Robbery). The State offers me immunity in exchange for my testimony against Z. I get on the stand and suddenly realize my testimony will implicate me in an unrelated case. I refuse to testify as agreed. The judge can find me in contempt.

If I'm the victim of an assault and am issued a subpoena and am asked a question about the assault I am still free to invoke my 5th Amendment rights. The government doesn't get to say "we're granting full immunity" as a work around.

There are so many cases of journalists or witnesses in protest situations not testifying against the other protesters or rioters. Journalists in particular spend a lot of cumulative time in jail for not giving up their sources.

They keep having "incidents". One of them is stalking the other, if the cops arrested this guy it's quite possible he's the one doing the stalking.

He's gotten away with murder and people keep dropping charges against him for his threatening and violent behavior. I wonder how far he can keep pushing the envelope before it all blows up in his face. I'm not sure if his behavior is escalating or not, but he sure seems to be getting in a lot of trouble in the three years since he murdered Trayvon Martin.
