Pew Study: Right-Wing Radio Shows Among Most Distrusted Sources Of News
Source: Pew Research Center
A new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center found that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck's talk radio shows are more distrusted than trusted among three generations surveyed by Pew.
Pew surveyed millennials, Generation Xers, and baby boomers on political news sources and how each generation trusted them. The study published on June 1 found that "Four sources are distrusted more than trusted by all three: The Glenn Beck Program, The Rush Limbaugh Show, The Sean Hannity Show, and BuzzFeed." (56 posts)Just scroll down a little. Left wing news sources are largely "unknown," and therefore do not rise to the level of trusted or distrusted.

(81,484 posts)Glad you're here! I was a little surprised about Buzzfeed being on there, but hey, at least the "big three" gas giants have been rightfully and properly cited here. AND that breitbart.com site, too. Good to see that one's included in the distrust column, where it belongs! But that doesn't come as surprising news to most of us here, I'd suspect.

Now that I think about it, a terrible conclusion comes to mind -- these people consciously believe that they distrust these shows, but have absorbed all the talking points unconsciously. This is how advertising works ("I never believe those ads!" -- they don't believe 'those ads,' but they proceed to go out and buy the very product that was advertised. This is propaganda at its best; people don't even realize consciously that they are being led by the nose.

(20,018 posts)That sounds like the right explanation.
Also: Maybe there aren't THAT many people (percentage-wise) who believe this stuff, but the most vocal of those get trotted out for the cameras every time DC wants to do something against the will of the majority.
IOW, maybe the lawmakers don't care what we think, but have a convenient chorus to sing the praises of whatever terrible thing they're about to do. (Including vote-rigging)

(2,586 posts)this very second! You'd think a radio station with only a few hundred listeners would go out of business but it doesn't. Air America failed due to it not being funded like these right wing stations.
