Union Victory for Mississippi Auto Parts Workers

Auto parts workers in impoverished Cleveland, Mississippi scored a victory Monday, voting overwhelmingly to form a union. Workers at the France-based Faurecia Automotive Seating plant faced low wages and poor working conditions, as well as a company practice of hiring even lower-paid temporary contract workers. They will now be represented by the United Auto Workers, who have been following a strategy of aggressively organizing auto workers across several Southern states.

(11,523 posts)It does seem ironic that a foreign company sets up in the US in order to pay low wages and have crap work conditions. These workers deserve better, and hopefully this can be an example to others.

(56,582 posts)Toyota is in Blue Springs, Nissan is in I think Canton. They even have a trade association.
Also Caterpillar has a big plant between Starkville and Columbus.
