CADYVILLE An intense search for the escaped killers is underway in Cadyville, with residents locked in their homes and Saranac Central School shut down for the day.
Police reportedly found evidence that Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, were bedded down near Kennedy and Bart Merrill roads.
Police sources told the Press-Republican this morning: "Best lead by far. We are close. This could be it."
New York State Police closed a section of Route 374 overnight. The road remains shut down east of the Village of Dannemora between Gen. Leroy Manor Road and Rand Hill Road in West Plattsburgh as police track down the prisoners, who escaped Saturday from Clinton Correctional Facility.
