The current contract between General Electric and its union employees expires at midnight Sunday June 21. That has 3,200 members of UE 506 and UE 618 at the Erie plant watching and waiting for word from contract negotiating teams at the bargaining table in New York.
In what they called a protest against work outsourced to the GE Transportation plant in Fort Worth, Texas, thousands of union workers walked off the job at Erie GE on Friday. It was their second four hour work stoppage this month. Union members have also declined to work overtime since May 22.
GE Transportation President and CEO Russell Stokes issued a statement Friday indicating that the work stoppages will impact production deadlines and only force GE to send more work to Texas.
