Hundreds rally at Ameristar to protest union health care changes

EAST CHICAGO | More than 300 people gathered Monday at Ameristar Casino Hotel East Chicago to protest changes to union employees' health insurance.
The protesters included Unite Here Local 1 union members from Ameristar, Majestic Star Casinos in Gary and Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City along with workers from Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, New Orleans and Tunica, Miss., spokesman Joe Shansky said.
Unite Here Local 1 represents about 200 cleaners, servers and bartenders at Ameristar East Chicago. The casino employs about 1,200 people.
Ameristar and the union remain at odds after more than two years of contract negotiations.

Union members from as far as New Orleans and Tunica, Miss., rallied with Local 1 Unite Here members fighting for a fair contract from Ameristar Casino.
