Jack Sullivan, 62, said Wednesday he has been told not to talk about budget cuts that will eliminate more than half of the senior scientist positions from the state Department of Natural Resources Science Services Bureau. .............
Critics of the budget working its way through the GOP-controlled Legislature predicted Sullivans departure signals the beginning of an exodus of DNR scientists mirroring the loss of some top talent at UW-Madison, which is also facing significant reductions and uncertainty about tenure rights.
These are very skilled individuals and very marketable, and they are going to go to other states and we are going to lose a great deal of skill, knowledge and talent, said George Meyer, a former DNR secretary who now directs the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation. Budget cuts have consequences, and these will damage natural resources in Wisconsin.
State Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Madison, said the state would suffer without top scientists to guide policy.
Its symbolic of this politicization that we see under Gov. (Scott) Walker, that scientists cant even make conclusions that arent opinion and are based on fact without consequences, said Taylor, a member of the Democratic minority on the Legislatures budget committee.....

The end result is the same either way.
Goes a long way in describing what kind of man he is, he apparently will blame and persecute a group for the personal perceived slights of a very small number of that group.

(16,093 posts)...you over estimate the intelligence of the people of Wisconsin!
If they were so easily swayed by ads paid for by men who wouldn't piss on most of them if they were on fire, then they aren't very smart!
As for being nice, I have friends who live in Wisconsin...they're very nice people, not so much those that voted for Walker!

(1 post)I've known Jack Sullivan for almost 40 years. The DNR is losing one of its best. He was vocal about climate change which is, I'm sure, a factor in his forced departure.
