Graham On Same-Sex Marriage Ruling: Opposing It Is 'Doomed To Fail'

Source: TPM

Presidential candidate Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Friday called opposition to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold same sex marriages "a divisive effort that would be doomed to fail."

"I am a proud defender of traditional marriage and believe the people of each state should have the right to determine their marriage laws," he said in a statement on Friday, before adding "I will respect the Court’s decision." Graham was clear, however, that he was not interested in mobilizing opposition to the Court's decision.

"Given the quickly changing tide of public opinion on this issue, I do not believe that an attempt to amend the U.S. Constitution could possibly gain the support of three-fourths of the states or a supermajority in the Congress," he said.

He called that kind of approach "a divisive effort that would be doomed to fail" and said he would instead be on watch for the religious rights of Americans in the aftermath of the ruling, both as a senator and if he were to become President. "While we all have differences, it is time for us to move forward together respectfully and as one people," he concluded.

At a Constitutional Convention, there is no limiting as to what can be offered in terms of amending the Constitution.

Anything can be considered, not just what they hate at that moment.

slandering someone over his sexual orientation isn't funny.

He has been in the closet far too long, if he thinks the public opinion is changing quickly, he has sheltered himself long enough to not have a clue.
