White House Plans Domestic Policy Push

Source: PoliticalWire/WallStreetJournal

While President Obama‘s “top foreign-policy initiatives–particularly on Cuba, trade and Iran–have dominated the headlines lately, the White House is gearing up for a domestic policy push that’s largely been under the radar,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“In coming weeks, the White House is expected to roll out more executive orders, perhaps on gun safety. And top White House officials are hoping to capitalize on their successful collaboration with congressional Republicans on trade to advance a business-tax overhaul and transportation initiatives targeted at shoring up the country’s infrastructure. Changes to the criminal justice system are also at the top of the president’s domestic wish list.”

I guess he hopes enough shiny objects will make us forgive him for that?

craft it. We'll get it no matter who the president is because they are all bought. I want to see him put in gun reform regardless.

If you friggin REDUCE business taxes (because any fool knows that "successful collaboration with Congressional Republicans is "no way" going to INCREASE business taxes, particularly when presented in para materia with Obama's requirement to pay employees for overtime), then that shifts more of the tax burden onto individual taxpayers, and makes the specious assumption that tax breaks to businesses will magically "trickle down".

Taxes are a zero sum pie chart. You reduce taxes on one segment and that reduction has to be balanced with increases on other segments. Puts me in mind of state and local governments offering all kinds of tax breaks/forgiveness to corporations and devleopers. In my community/state I've never seen those arrangements pay off in the long run to taxpayers.

The devil will be in the details. Hope those will not be super-secret/decoder ring access only, as per the TPP negotiations.

Oh boy, more lanes on the interstate! And express buses to pretend we have mass transit.

Meanwhile down the page we see derailed freight trains that caused a mass evacuation.

And last year we had frozen gridlock on the highways.

Maybe we can do more shovel-ready, planning avoided.
