BLM confirms ranger's gun stolen 4 days before it was used in SF pier shooting

Source: San Jose Mercury News

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Bureau of Land Management confirmed Wednesday that one of its ranger's service guns was stolen from a car four days before it was used to shoot and kill Kathryn Steinle on a San Francisco pier in a case that has gripped the country.

The BLM-issued handgun was stolen from the agent's car June 27 while the ranger was in San Francisco on official government travel, said Dana Wilson, a spokeswoman for the federal agency that administers about 284,000 acres of public land in the local region.

"The theft was immediately reported to the San Francisco Police Department," she said.

San Francisco law enforcement sources on Tuesday confirmed that the gun used by Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, a felon and five-time deportee, belonged to a federal agent, but they did not specify which agency.

I don't know if that's where the gun was b/c the article doesn't say, but find another place for whatever you don't want stolen from your car. I feel so sorry for that poor father and the girl's murder

Even in "secure" parking garages, your vehicle will get broken into, especially if you have a rental or out-of-state plates.

Car break-ins are at a ridiculous level in that city.

1. Keep nothing of value in them
2. Don't lock the doors- new windows are expensive.
