Donald Trump "has vaulted into a virtual dead heat with Jeb Bush atop the field," a Reuters poll showed. Trump, whose incendiary remarks about immigrants has generated widespred news converage, has support of 15.8 percent of respondents in an online poll vs. Bush's 16.1 percent.

“How can I be tied with this guy?” Trump asked a crowd Saturday in Phoenix. “He’s terrible. He’s weak on immigration.” Chris Christie got 9.5 percent; Rand Paul 8.1 percent; Ben Carson 7.2 percent; Scott Walker 5.8 percent.

The controversy over Trump's immigration comments has dominated news coverage of the Republican campaign in recent weeks, and he has climbed in the Reuters poll to draw essentially even with Bush. On June 30, the poll had Bush at 16.9 percent and Trump at 12.8 percent.

In the Reuters poll, 504 age 18 or over were questioned over the same time period, with a credibility interval of 5.1 percentage point

1. The good piece of this news

is that Bush may not be the nominee. Trump certainly won't, but if Bush can't slam Trump entirely out of the process with all of the ammo that Trump is giving him, then the entire nomination process is going to be grotesque, with no remotely viable candidate emerging from it.

I dont see him losing Iowa so second/third place could be the big fight for momentum into NH. Paul Begala is right, we need to keep Trump in the race for as long as possbile, hopefully into the general as a independent

I think he is doing this for his "brand" - even with the companies dropping him, I think he believes he will get some benefit from this financially in the end.

Don't add to the pile-on. We have earned that first GOP debate through our years of suffering with a GOP congress.

Taking up the gauntlet for craziness laid down by Trump, Scott Walker has seen the light and now claims he's talking directly to God and is God's chosen one. What can Jeb say or do to excite the theocratic, homophobe, racist, xenophobic, anti-female base of the Republican party? He needs to consider strangling an atheist lesbian undocumented black woman from Jamaica on live TV. Maybe that'll be a start. I'm joking of course.

They are saying that he will flame out as the primary goes on. But their big mistake Trump is no Cain. Trump has the name recognition, and is very savy marketing man.
