Lindsey Graham: GOP must reject ‘demagogue’ Donald Trump or party will ‘deserve to lose’

Source: The Guardian

MARTIN PENGELLY, THE GUARDIAN

South Carolina senator calls the business mogul a ‘wrecking ball’ and warns if Republicans don’t challenge views on immigration they deserve to lose

The Republican party must reject Donald Trump’s views on immigration as those of a “demagogue” and a “wrecking ball”, a competing candidate for the GOP presidential nomination said on Sunday, or it will face losing “the moral authority to govern”.

On Friday and Saturday Trump, the business mogul and reality TV star who has refused to back down on controversial comments about Mexico and illegal immigrants to the US that have cost him international condemnation and a series of business relationships, spoke to crowds in Los Angeles , Las Vegas and Phoenix.

In Arizona, in an hour-long, extemporised speech to thousands in a convention centre , he said: “This has become a movement. The silent majority is back, and we’re going to take our country back … the word is getting out that we have to stop illegal immigration.”

that Donald Trump will take his ego and his popularity and run on a third party ticket. Racist White America has been looking for their leader and found him in Donald Trump. Even if Trump only pulled in 5% of the general election vote think of the damage he could do. Swing states like Pennsylvania and Virginia, both with rural parts that rival the Deep South, would follow Trump and ensure these states go Blue.

What planet are you really from? The Republican party lost “the moral authority to govern” decades ago when they thought it was ok to do things like arrange to sabotage peace talks with Vietnam in order to win a presidential race and until it stops doing things like arranging for US hostages to be held longer in another country, doesnt assist in covering up for a president who does illegal arms sales, stops gerrymandering and stops the voter ID laws designed to suppress voters and stops being a giant douchebag over a black democrat being president you wont regain it.

Today's government is one that imposes the will of the top .01% on the rest of the country, refusing to enact even those policies that are demanded by vast majorities of citizens. It's an illegitimate institution masquerading as a representative democracy.

I like this part, too: "...or it will face losing the moral authority to govern." "OR IT WILL FACE LOSING the moral authority to govern?"

HAH! lindsey dear, that happened a LONG time ago! That "moral authority" thing is LONG GONE. republi-CONS by definition, and by evidence of consistent and repeated behavior, do not have the moral authority to do much of ANYTHING, anymore.

they purposely and carefully nurtured with steroid-laced racist chickenfeed all these years - Chicken Trump should never quit or apologize and keep on crapping his chickenshit lingo all over the GOP roost...time to take GOP Swastika down the pole.

A One party race with to keep the White House with President Clinton, Sanders, Biden, etc. is fine with me.

And if gerrymandering is finally ended by the Courts, then the GOP cheating flags over the House and Senate can be taken down for good measure...the GOP deserves a timeout for an election cycle....too bad about all the ad money the media will never see.

Rec., cause at least Graham is saying close to what should be said.

....as he did on this subject. Before reflexively slamming him, you should look it up and listen to what he said. Better yet, the GOP powers should take heed for the good of the nation, but that's a different story. He's telling them in the clearest way possible that if they don't rein in Trump and reject his demagoguery forcefully, they will lose and they will deserve to lose.

On the issue of who the undocumented immigrants are, he said he's been working on that issue in the Senate for 11 years, and he understands that they are not criminals but poor people from poor countries who come here to work and make better lives for their families. He sounded like us on this issue, frankly.

Seeing politics as more than USC vs UCLA, UNC vs Duke rankles people for some reason

is that this kind of stuff exposes them for there absolute focus on "winning."

That is it, winning elections.

They don't even know what they stand for anymore, the just know what they scream about to divide the nation into voting camps to try to come out ahead.

The ONLY time, literally, they develop any level of rational thought is when there is something like this that crosses the line from absolutely wrong like everything else they scream about to obscenely wrong to the point were even THEY can see how much it hurts them ELECTORALLY.

His clarity here is not about people, policy, good government ... It just is a break from the SOP of widely screaming about shit out of a brief moment of clarity relative to the party "losing."

Fuck him, fuck his party ...

He is wrong on 1,000 other things, and to the extent he is "right" here it is for the wrong reason.

The second Mitt Flew to Vegas with Ann-toinette to kiss Trump's behind and get his endorsement, the GOP is forever linked with Trump.

The party leadership loved him and even asked him to speak at convention and make a lame video.

He's theirs. They own him. Now they reap the rewards.

Lindsey is like any of the other 1,000s of media obsessed repubilcan assholes, not just wrong, but VIRULENTLY wrong on everything.

He is not even "right" on this, because he isn't concerned here about people or good policy, his only concern is the party "winning."

Fuck him, fuck him, fuck him.

27. Trump, Coulter, And Other Wing-Nutz Are Speaking To The Republican Id
Sun Jul 12, 2015, 08:16 PM
Jul 2015

The Donald, Ann Coulter, and other right wing-nuts are speaking to the Republican Id and, thanks to "talk" radio, opportunistic politicians and members of the right wing propaganda organs, the Republican Party Id has become racist. Latinos, especially Mexican-Americans, citizens of American families of decades and even centuries of good standing, have been conflated with "illegal" others.

Such race-baiting appeals to the right-wing Republican Id, not just in the former Confederacy, but across much of the Far West and states like Indiana and Kansas. Outside of California, Republicans have faced few consequences for partying with racist demagogues

Now that many Hispanics have become plurality ethnic groups by growth and migration, Republican race-baiters now risk throwing state elections and electoral college votes because at least some Hispanics are going to get understandably angry about being trashed.

I've no sympathy for the Republican Party. They didn't clean up their act and sideline their racists, and now they get to see their party begin to take the same track that the Know Nothings took over 150 years ago.
