VIENNA (AP) Negotiators at the Iran nuclear talks plan to announce Monday that they've reached a historic deal capping nearly a decade of diplomacy that would curb the country's atomic program in return for sanctions relief, two diplomats told The Associated Press on Sunday.
The envoys said a provisional agreement may be reached even earlier by late Sunday. But they cautioned that final details of the pact were still being worked out. Once it is complete, a formal, final agreement would be open to review by officials in the capitals of Iran and the six world powers at the talks, they said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, right, talks to journalist from a balcony of the Palais Coburg hotel where the Iran nuclear talks are being held in Vienna, Austria, Friday, July 10, 2015.
Senior U.S. and Iranian officials suggested, however, there might not be enough time to reach a deal by the end of Sunday and that the drafting of documents could bleed into Monday.
All of the officials, who are at the talks in Vienna, demanded anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the negotiations publicly.

Looks hopeful. Fingers crossed.
In another sign that a deal could soon be sealed, Russian news agencies reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had arrived in Vienna. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was also expected later in the day. The other foreign ministers of the six nations negotiating with Iran already are in the Austrian capital and in position to join Kerry and Zarif for an announcement.

(6,699 posts)Not holding my breath on this one. Of course we have the repuKKKes "make him a one-term President assholes" to deal with should something actually come from the talks.
The Iranians have NO reason to trust us, and we have NO REASON to trust them. I know, I know.....we'll have international observers, etc, etc. Just not buying it. Those clerics are some real theocratic ass holes.

(59,504 posts)and details it -- that should give some credibility. (Certainly more than Netanyahu whose bomb cartoon at the UN got the physics wrong!) The team of Kerry and Moniz has to be one of the strongest the US has had -- and it is great that they work together very very well.

(13,190 posts)Once this agreement is announced and what's in it the major corporate news outlets will start bringing on republican war hawks to say what a bad deal this is.Mark my word you heard it hear first

(27 posts)What do you expect? The Republicans are already attacking the nuclear deal before it's been announced and before they know any details. They lack any credibility per usual.

(59,504 posts)That's the way the law Congress passed is written. I would assume if the other powers approve, Kerry and Moniz should be able to make the case for it. In fact, the framework was more detailed and better than many expected.
Judging from the articles on them, Kerry and Moniz, who have been friends for over a decade work very well together. The prominence of Moniz, an MIT professor in Nuclear physics, will make it very hard to argue that things they agreed to (for inspections etc) are naive. Interesting aside -- when this is done, they will work together on climate change per an article. Moniz was a Kerry adviser in 2004 and in 2009/2010 when he was working on climate change.

In wake of historic Iran deal being announced Monday, Jeb Bush reminds us, "Obama uses big words and conferences with world leaders = bad"

(59,504 posts)This is an important deal and it very well may be a deal that avoids an even more deadly war in the Near East than the one - whose ramifications we are still dealing with.
If it is a deal that all these nations agree to, the combination of Secretaries Moniz and Kerry should be able to get enough votes to at least uphold an Obama veto if they vote against it. Only if they override a veto can they stop the deal.
(Note at that point, all of the other 5 countries will have agreed. What does it do for the US if we scuttle it because Congress is dysfunctional? What then happens at the UN level? )
