Thousands ride in support of Confederate flag at Marion County [FL] complex

Source: Ocala Star-Banner

OCALA - An estimated 2,000 vehicles, mostly motorcycles and trucks adorned with Rebel flags, took part in a rally and ride Sunday afternoon in support of keeping a Confederate flag flying in front of the McPherson Governmental Complex in Ocala.

The event was organized by David Stone, of Ocala, and was called the Florida Southern Pride Ride. Police officials estimated participation at a couple thousand vehicles.

The ride started at about 1 p.m. and, as of 1:30 p.m., could be seen winding its way through Ocala.

Participants were wearing shirts that said "heritage not hate" and talked of defending a way of life rooted in Southern traditions.

Awesome how thousands of people will ride in defense of a traitorous flag. So where's the "Ride for Education" or "Ride Against Corporate Personhood", y'know for issues that actually matter?

From "man look at this shit!" all the way to "God do not like ugly!" With somebody chortling in the background and a yapping dog in between!

Could NOT be funnier!!! PRICELESS!!!!

...which I'm sure they did. Hey, they have ben carson and allen west; and vannity even manages to get a handful of blacks that call in and support his racist logic.

This clown was trying to imply that blacks were in support of the confedaracy...slavery, keping that "happy southern way of life". How absolutely absurd. How about, "we got your woman and family back here on the farm, and you better pick up that gun and go fight for us, or they're toast!" More probable.

They always hang their hat on some illogical, improbable crap like that to make their point. vannity had some black preacher on his show yesterday trying to sing the "black racist tag" on the 99.99% of the black population today who see injustice in our society at the hand of the white supremecists. Maybe I didn't state that quite well, but you get my drift. They can always seem to come up with some poor, confused soul to make their illogical point.

Pathetic!

"What if your heritage is rooted in hate?” Abdelaziz said. “You have to confront that.”

“This (ride) does not represent all of Ocala,” Abdelaziz said.

In the aftermath of the Charleston killings, too much emphasis has been placed on the flag, she added. “Dylann Roof held the flag in one hand, and a gun in the other. We’ve heard more about the flag than the gun control problem in America"

Eye of the beholder, life and history are complex.

For some reason, I can't copy and paste the image.

A few of the remarks from the participants.

http://www.ocala.com/article/20150712/ARTICLES/150719928?p=all&tc=pgall

Danny Hart, of Dunnellon, had two Confederate flags and the American flag in the back of his truck. He pointed out that the U.S. flag was flying higher and said that he had come to participate in the ride to “defend freedom.”

Another ride participant, Rick Hart, said, “It’s a history thing. The flag is also a military flag. It’s not a race symbol.”

(snip)

On Sunday, a few black people participated in the ride. One of them, Renee Gore, 34, of Dunnellon, said that to her the flag means “heritage, love and family.”

Another black person, Dwayne Webb, 23, of Ocala, said he came specifically “to show people (the flag) is not about prejudice and hate.” For Webb, the flag represents “good living, respect, and honesty,” things that he associates with the South.

So riddle me this, fellow DUers:

For the purposes of this exercise I am an employer in Ocala. I employ 300 persons of all races, creeds and sexual orientations.

Would it be legal, or even wise, to...

a) Attend the parade with a video camera
b) Record the license plates of all the cars and trucks bearing Confederate flags that are in the parade - remember, you are allowed to photograph anything visible from a public right of way - and make a list of the plate numbers
c) On Tuesday morning, record the license plates of all the cars and trucks in my employee parking lot
d) Terminate anyone whose license plate appears on both lists on the grounds that their participation in this event oppresses my African-American and LGBT employee population

piss on blacks in private and call it rain in public, then fight anyone who challenges them, and they prefer that the challengers be black. My parents lived in Ocala for a couple of years and I have to say that the majority of Ocalans are the stupidest bunch of people I've ever had the misfortune to be around.

They could actually come up with a new flag for Southern heritage if they rubbed two brain cells together. It could keep the colors and/or include some kinds of symbols of southern music, food, manners or environment, but no, they must insist like dumbasses on a failed flag designed by and for racists.

They're parading their racism for the nation to see, all right. But they've lost the brand fight.

I guarantee, if you stopped one of the truck in this "rally," had everyone get out and counted their teeth, you would not find enough teeth to make one complete adult set of 32.

The combined IQ would not reach room temperature.

And there would not be a single high school diploma in the truck.
