NAACP calls for Confederate flag to be removed from Alabama troopers’ uniforms and cruisers

Source: RawStory

The NAACP of Huntsville has called on the state of Alabama to remove Confederate flag symbols that are displayed on the uniforms and cruisers used by Alabama State Troopers.

Although it is not as blatant as the flag that once flew over on South Carolina’s statehouse grounds, an image of the Confederate battle flag is embedded in the Coat of Arms of the State of Alabama, which is worn by every trooper and displayed on each of their vehicles.

NAACP of Huntsville spokesman Rev. Robert Shanklin told WAFF that the rebel flag has to go.

“The time is right, and I just think it needs to be,” Shanklin explained. “We need to do a clean sweep. The state and local government, anywhere that that’s located.”

It's a small part of the coat of arms, which itself is a small part of the state outline, which is itself a small portion of the car's door.

The coat of arms of Alabama depicts a shield upon which is carried the symbols of the five nations which have at various times held sovereignty over a part or the whole of what is now Alabama. These are the coat of arms of France, the ancient coat of arms of Crown of Castile for Spain (Castile quartering León), the Union Flag of the United Kingdom (which was not adopted until after Alabama's independence) and the battle flag of the Confederate States of America

.

Maybe time for an entirely new design

1) They use the racist battle flag instead of the CSA flag

2) The traitors in Alabama have the American Flag the smallest.

I guess its more militant and way better known, but they are all the flags of traitors fighting to preserve slavery. It would be no more nor less acceptable to me if it was some other CSA flag.

On #2 I suppose they'd argue that the U.S. one is in the center. But yes, I did notice the diminutive size.

I think its time for a redesign - one that doesn't include any traitor slave-keeping flag.

Has no historical context in Alabama other than for racism.

As for no other historic context (other than the Battle Flag of the Army of N. Virginia):

2nd National Flag (May 1, 1863 - March 4, 1865)
Oh shoot, it doesn't show the outline of the flag (I added that in with my "+----+" thingies) -- the battle flag part of it is in the upper left quarter - see Wikipedia link. The rest of the flag is white. I'm sure I could find another one if I tried hard enough, but not really worth it.

Third National Flag (after March 4, 1865)

Doesn't matter much to me that the "battle flag" part occupied only a quarter of the flag. Still the flags of traitors fighting to preserve slavery. Sorry, I just cannot get around that.

never had sovereignty over Alabama. The flag of the CSA could be argued, but not the battle rag

convince the best black high school football players in America not to sign letters of intent to play football at the University of Alabama and the flag will disappear in 24 hours or less...
