Denver's Little Sisters of the Poor lose contraception coverage ruling

Source: Denver Post

The Denver-based Little Sisters of the Poor, who sued to avoid complying with the Obamacare contraception mandate, lost Tuesday in the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled they must allow employees to have contraception coverage.

The Little Sisters' challenged the process they must follow to get out from under the contraception mandate, but failed, the court decided, to show a substantial burden on the exercise of their religion.

"As Little Sisters of the Poor we simply cannot choose between our care for the elderly poor and our faith, and we should not have to make that choice because it violates our nation's commitment to ensuring that people from diverse faiths can freely follow God's calling in their lives," Mother Provincial Sister Loraine Marie Maguire said in a release.

The Affordable Care Act requires employers who provide health insurance coverage to include benefits for preventive care, including contraception, without cost to their insured employees.

It is almost like Jewish and Muslim employers saying "we will only pay salaries to those who don't spend them on eating pork."

I actually made an argument to some conservative relatives about that very point.

Though, I did become a smart ass about it eventually and suggested that all people that want to call themselves religious groups pay their employees in "virtue vouchers" or something like that. So they could assure that not one cent of their compensation could ever possibly be used to pay for pornography, condoms, bacon, r rated movies, or whatever else they find "objectionable."

Sometimes I need to learn to guard my tongue.

that their position on contraception is the right one, but NOT FORCE them to give up any benefits provided to EVERYONE ELSE just because they failed to persuade those employees of their stance.

That's the decision the court should have made in the Hobby Lobby case as well.

It's not the gov't problem (nor the insurance co's) that these groups haven't been able to convert their employees to follow their thinking. There should be NO Exemptions!

Are they impugning the religiosity of their flock? Why don't they just assume that nobody that works for them is a sinner, and let it go?

Because they are actually busybodies trying to enforce lifestyle decision on their employees.

Saw comments on a right wing site that this may force those nuns out of the USA.
"The order was previously banned in China and Myanmar. The Obama Admininistration may force them out of the United States."

Leftist Court Rules Against Little Sisters of the Poor – Will Force Poverty Nuns to Distribute Abortion Drugs
--- this is the actual title of the OP - the poor Nuns will actually have to PERSONALLY distribute ABORTION DRUGS!!

Today a far left court forced the Little Sisters of the Poor to participate in Obama’s contraception scheme or face excessive IRS fines.
--- It's "Obama's contraception scheme" - that scheming BLACK man!!

As Little Sisters of the Poor, we simply cannot choose between our care for the elderly poor and our faith.
--- Caring for the elderly poor is your faith in action! You're "faith" is just a cover for your bigotry and hatred of women!

Fucking bastards, I'm so glad they lost!!!
