Capitol Hill Democrats Wish Hillary Clinton Was President Already

As the former secretary of State shuffled between half a dozen meetings in the House and Senate, Clinton intended to give Democratic members of Congress a candid glimpse not just of her agenda, but of how she might interact with her allies in Congress if she were their president.
After more than six years living with the Obama administration, which has often been blasted for relying on Democrats on the Hill only in the 11th hour of crucial negotiations, members leaped at the chance to have the ear of a former colleague and potential future president. Clinton came ready to listen.
"I have never had a relationship with President Obama to speak of. I have had a relationship with President Clinton and first lady Clinton and then Secretary Clinton," Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said.
Clinton met Tuesday with the House Democratic Caucus, Senate Democrats, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Progressive Caucus. At each meeting, she came ready with extensive knowledge of their priorities.

(20 posts)Let's not forget- Hillary proved to be a militarist during her time in the State Dept. She is not good as a diplomatic negotiator. She voted (unforgivably) FOR the War ON Iraq. Her cronies might be comfortable with her simply because they know her and are not threatened by her.
She talks to them. She smiles. Takes a picture. Bleh.
I want someone who will rattle the cages a bit.
I wonder...

(30,250 posts)"She's so informed about everyone's bills that it's kind of refreshing," Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota told National Journal. "She would refer to people all the time.
She must have referenced 10 different senators in relation to different bills and things they were working on. It was pretty impressive."
Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii said he also was impressed with Clinton's command of the issues and who was the expert on what, talking directly with senators on issues that deeply concern them and their constituents. "She was able to talk to Joe Manchin about coal country, she was able to talk to Martin Heinrich about climate, and to Ben Cardin about foreign affairs," Schatz said. "She has those relationships, and she has that understanding of the system that I think gives us confidence that maybe she'll help us to make the system work a little better."
Hillary is known for being one of the most, if not the most, prepared person at any meeting. She likes to do her homework. As SOS foreign dignitaries were always surprised by the amount of information she knew about their countries, even about arcane issues that most diplomats wouldn't bother learning.

(5,811 posts)be devastated when his second term comes to an end. I like HRC's policy framework. But what I feel for President Obama, I will never ever feel for her. I will vote for her as the Dem nominee and down ticket to give her the Congress she needs to get stuff done like gun control. Personally, I consider many of those people on the Hill snakes. I'm glad the President didn't watse his time grinning and shuffling for them. They should not need President Obama to kiss their respective asses to do what they were elected to do and paid at least $175,000 a year to do. Their damn jobs.

(297,295 posts)But, I'm glad Hillary did well on the Hill.. even though the article tried to make President Obama in not such a good light.
Obama has won 2 terms and has many awesome accomplishments.
Hillary has a long road ahead and it's important what she did today.. and good on those Dems in Congress knowing she'll be great to work with.
