US sailor dies from wounds two days after attack on military sites in Chattanooga, bringing toll to five.- US media
Breaking - will update.
Logistics specialist Randall Smith had been fighting for his life since the attack.
His death brings the number of people killed by gunman Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez to five. The other four victims were US marines.
Abdulazeez was later himself killed in a shootout with police.
The FBI has said his motives for the shooting were unclear, but say they have found no evidence that he was carrying out an international terror plot.
Abdulazeez first fired shots at a recruitment centre in Chattanooga, then drove about six miles (10km) to a Navy and Marine reserve centre, where he shot and killed the marines, and wounded Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Smith.
A relative told the US military newspaper Stars and Stripes on Friday that the family were praying for the survival of Smith, who was shot three times.
She said Smith was married with three young daughters.

That makes them an easy target for any nut-job that comes along.

(22,651 posts)recruiter store didn't have damage or injury. The man had a problem with recruiters????
He did make a comment in his school yearbook, something about people taking him for a terrorist because of his name. That's not an exact quote.
This is the USA, a lot of the general public could and do, treat people way differently just because of a name or skin color or religion.

Shut 'em down, spend the money on education or food stamps or swimming lessons for kids.

(135,425 posts)His family must be devastated--in recruiting duty, when you get "shot down," it's usually by an applicant who has changed his or her mind--not by some jerk with a weapon who wants to kill military personnel.
Technical aside, unimportant in the big scheme: For old salts who don't remember "logistics specialist" during their time in service, it's a portmanteau designation created from the merger of Postal Clerk (PC) and Storekeeper (SK).

(135 posts)too easy for anyone to obtain these assault weapons. too many rounds can be fired very quickly by any crazy who decides on doing it. it you haven't shot one of these things, I would recommend going to a shooting range and fire a couple of clips with a 9mm semi-automatic. And that's small! They have a lot more to chose from! we don't need these weapons in everyone's hands!
