In Blow, U.S.-Trained Syrian Rebels Captured By Al Qaeda Wing

Source: Reuters

Tue Aug 4, 2015 9:12pm EDT
WASHINGTON | By Phil Stewart

The United States said on Tuesday it had indications that Syrian rebels trained by the U.S. military were captured by fighters from al Qaeda's Syria wing, Nusra Front, in the latest blow to a fledgling program at the center of America's war strategy.

The Pentagon said in a statement it was monitoring the situation but had "no further details to provide."

A U.S. defense official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said at least five Syrian rebels were believed to have been captured.

That followed an attack by Nusra Front on Friday believed to have killed one of the so-called "New Syrian Forces," in what would be their first battlefield casualty.

With position comes responsibility.

Our "strategy" in Syria has been immoral, cynical, and incompetent.

It was people American's trained who were captured. It is designed to lose. The "strategy" --- oh that's right Obama said the other day "We don't have a strategy against ISIS". Instead we have a tiny force in Iraq pretending to train the Iraqi unarmy. It will never succeed. It has been one disaster after another. Remember when Obama called ISIS "the JV squad"? That was right before they took over 1/3 of Iraq and half of Syria.

The guardian has been reporting since Friday a total of 30 killed captured or wounded out of a total force of approximately 60. Their reports are based on statements by division 30, the group itself. Meanwhile Reuters through Pentagon sources is dribbling out 1 killed yesterday, 5 captured in today's story. I think the Pentagons not ready to face up to what an incredibly stupid idea this was.
