Bernie Sanders closes in on Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire
Source: NYP
Bernie Sanders has pulled within striking distance of front-runner Hillary Clinton in all-important New Hampshire, a poll of Granite State Democrats revealed on Wednesday.
The former secretary of state is edging Sanders, 42-36, in the survey conducted by the University of New Hampshire for WMUR.
The poll was conducted between July 22 through July 30, with a margin of error of 5.9 percent, meaning Sanders could be in a deadlock with Clinton.
The Vermont senator is benefiting from a 69 percent favorable rating among New Hampshire Democrats, compared to just a 10 percent negative, the poll showed.
While Clinton has a high 73 percent favorable rating among state Democrats, shes hurt by 19 percent unfavorable mark.

(67,782 posts)....this is unbelievable "spin" or "denial":

While Clinton has a high 73 percent favorable rating among state Democrats, shes hurt by 19 percent unfavorable mark.
So Clinton has a higher favorability rating, close to 3/4 of those responding "favorable" this article spins it against her anyway.
The differentials are Clinton +54 and Sanders +59 - "within the margin of error"!!!!!
I like where Clinton is in New Hampshire.

(67,782 posts)....Sanders and denigrating Clinton because they realize she's the more viable and, to them, "dangerous" opponent.
So they take their poll data and spin it as a negative toward her, even though bottom-line it's better than Sanders' numbers.

(57,936 posts)The Republicans and independents who are backing are doing so because a) the Republican candidates are horrible, and b) Bernie's message appeals to them.
We shall see how Bernie does in New Hampshire in the primary. I think everyone will be surprised at how well he does.

(67,782 posts)...stating exactly that.
But you're right - Sanders' message does indeed appeal to republicans and conservatives. That is scary.

(10,303 posts)That Bernie is appealing to a wide audience. ... Democrats, Republicans, Independents. ... I don't see anything scary about it whatsoever. His values align with mine. That people are rethinking about which politicians are best aligned with their values is IMO a good thing.
People aligning with Donald Trump. ... now that I find scary because his values don't line up with mine. He seems to have acquired the Tea party base, so not exactly a cross party platform.
At the end of the day, as long as we have someone on the Democratic Party ticket win the general election in November 2016 then we'll be in a good place for the country to go forth and prosper.

(57,936 posts)Sanders tells it like it is. That appeals to Americans of all political stripes.
Now, to me it is wonderful that Sanders, who identifies himself as a democratic socialist, is appealing to some conservatives. That suggests a shift in the country to a more liberal, fairer, more progressive and socially responsible political view.
From what I read here on DU, Hillary supporters find Bernie scary because he appeals to Republicans and conservatives. They seem to think that makes him less of a Democrat. But then turn right around and say they find him scary because he is too liberal, too progressive -- because he says he is a democratic socialist. That, they claim is scary and on top of it all makes him less of a Democrat.
You can't have it both ways.
Bernie can either be scary because he is too far to the right and pleases conservatives or he too scary because he is too far to the left and is a self-identified democratic socialist.
Maybe the Hillary supporters are just looking for something to be scared about.
Maybe they find Bernie scary because voters of all persuasions find his ideas and points of view and his platform relevant to their lives. That's what I think.
Bernie very directly speaks to the frustrations, hopes and dreams of Americans.
I guess for the "in" crowd, that is pretty scary.

(41,997 posts)And it simply isn't that impressive. I expect Sanders numbers to improve, to wax and wane as much as any other candidate.
This excerpt sums it up:
-----While the new poll is likely to boost the hopes of Sanders supporters, the numbers remain mostly unchanged from other New Hampshire polls in recent months, which show Sanders narrowing his gap with Clinton but still trailing. And despite his growing support, 68 percent of those surveyed said Clinton would win the New Hampshire primary in February, while only 17 percent said Sanders. A majority of respondents said that Clinton also has the best chance of winning the general election and that she has the right experience to be president.

As I said on the other post about this, I expect the usual outrage that the polls are irrelevant...unless they are favorable to The Annointed One.

Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The comment was more referring to how a number of people here think that she is the only one with a chance of winning, and that no else should even bother supporting other canadiates because of that.
It's a satirical take oh the current status of DU.
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: first I voted to leave it alone and then I heard Joe Scarborough's voice in my ear. So please HIDE IT

(11,573 posts)and Hillary may well be beating Sanders by 12% instead of six, which would be more consistent with his high-teens to mid-twenties in other polls.
And the photoshopped picture of Hillary is just peeeethetic!

(11,573 posts)Bernie's had a few years trimmend off his photo. His hair's been shopped, but the pic as a whole was shot with what's called "glamour lighting,". a strong light straight-on that makes wrinkles go away, and a "hair light" that washes out redness and age spots on the dome.

(67,782 posts)....my first observation was that they included a picture of Clinton almost scowling but a picture of Sanders grinning. Subtle bias.
They should have used this picture:

They overdid it badly, though, and if you're a photog, it hits you right in the face.
