Police: 51-year-old Suspect in Antioch theater shooting dead

Metro police say a 51-year-old male suspect who opened fire in a Antioch theater this afternoon sprayed two females with paper spray and injured one man with a hatchet.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said the two first-responding officers were working a traffic stop when witnesses ran to them to alert them to the situation inside the theater, Carmike Hickory 8.

A sergeant responding outside the theater encountered three injured individuals, two women, 53 and 17, who had been injured by pepper spray, officials said. A third victim, a 58-year-old man, had suffered a superficial injury to the shoulder from the hatchet, officials said.

Police said about 2:20 p.m. they were examining two backpacks, one on the suspect and one left in the theater, to make sure they were not dangerous. About 3:30 p.m., officials said they would detonate the bags at the scene to make sure they are safe. Aaron said the shooting occurred in a theater showing Mad Max.

6. We are one violent country. My wife will be by my side at all times when she gets here 9/11

because I don't want anything to happen. She won't even go to the supermarket without me to protect her.

And before anyone says anything, she's a foreigner who is leaving her home for the first time, is 5'1", barely 105 lbs and way too trusting, naive and accepting. Also, she has no idea how to defend herself because she is a Buddhist and is completely passive and non-violent.

I am worried when she is alone here for the next year or so while we go for her green card.
