Prosecutors investigating the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and its former chairman, David Samson, issued a new subpoena to the transit agency this week, according to a source familiar with its contents.
U.S. Attorney Paul Fishmans office this year has been investigating whether Samson abused his position to get United Airlines to start a flight route from Newark to Columbia, S.C., about 50 miles from a home Samson often used as a weekend retreat.
The Port Authority manages several airports, including Newark Liberty, one of Uniteds biggest hubs nationwide.
Despite relatively low demand, United offered the Newark-to-Columbia flight from September 2012 to April 2014, discontinuing service three days after Samson resigned amid fallout from the George Washington Bridge scandal.
