Obama: ‘Great Urgency’ to Address Race

Source: TDB/NPR

In an interview with NPR one year after unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was gunned down by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo., President Obama says he feels a “great urgency” to address race. Obama said he doesn’t “buy” the notion that political considerations in his first term kept him from efficiently addressing the issue of race. “Here’s one thing I will say: That I feel a great urgency to get as much done as possible,” Obama said. “And, there’s no doubt that after over six and a half years on this job, I probably have an easier time juggling a lot of different issues. And, it may be that my passions show a little bit more. Just because I have been around this track for now for a while.”

I think he wanted to address it, but his handlers put the fear of the "Angry Black Man" in him. I'm probably wrong, but I think had we gotten the uncensored Barak Obama all along, we'd be in a much better place now.

But nothing was done.
No one has had to answer for it and the cops get away with it...even with a black president and AG...go figure.

But now that it is election season it comes up. And we have to assume that once the election is over it will go away again.

Sorry but I can't praise him for his concern because it is way too late.

I would love it if the POTUS called a White House Conference on LE/Race Relations, similar to the WH Conference on Aging. Experts in the field come together to share ideas, figure out what needs to be changed and begin to find common goals. Invite BLM, the 50 governors, mayors of major cities, experts in race relations...open up the discussion, stop the killing. It has now been a year since Michael Brown was gunned down and I don't see elected officials doing anything substantial to end this crisis.

to set-up the meetings with Lynch and Obama. Then we will truly know how urgently Obama feels about these issues.
