Dianne Feinstein defends Clinton’s email practices

Source: Politico

The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee defended Hillary Clinton’s email practices on Thursday, saying media reports about classified information on the former secretary of state’s server did not make clear that Clinton hadn’t written any of the “top secret” emails.

Two days after an inspector general said it found “top secret” information on Clinton’s unsecured email server, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California accused news reports of “missing key points.” For example: “none of the emails alleged to contain classified information were written by Secretary Clinton,” she said — nor were they marked as “top secret” at the time they were sent.

“The questions are whether she received emails with classified information in them, and if so, whether information in those emails should have been classified in the first place,” Feinstein said. “Those questions have yet to be answered. However, it is clear that Secretary Clinton did not write emails containing classified information.”

............But Feinstein’s statement on Thursday aimed to rebut any accusations of wrongdoing. As the top Democrat on the panel with jurisdiction over top secret matters, Feinstein — who noted in the release that she reads classified documents all the time — has some authority on the issue and and her opinion should carry some weight.

The press still does not have access to the four emails the inspector general initially flagged to Congress, making it difficult to determine who, in fact, sent the messages........

Much ado about nothing, so far.

with the secret/classified/sealed categories .... lawyers, judges, elected officials,
political staff

I don't know HOW they keep it straight, properly categorized.

We're not talking 10,000 pages, we're talking the deluge that is our modern
digital life ... hundreds of thousands of pages, and issues .... smart phones,
email, filing systems, archives

OK, the staff is supposed to be responsible, but the people at the top
are NOT IT PhD's, they rely on expertise

It's a daunting task

This is nonsense. Hillary Clinton is not hiding anything. This is just a republican scam, all of it.. The problem is there are real things and the republicans are right in the middle.. Their desire to take down Hillary is to deflect from the fascist activities of repubs

I do agree with everything that Senator Feinstein said and posters are right to a point, but I think everyone is overlooking the fact that those emails were not on government severs where they would have been afforded much better protecting under the .gov domain than on a Hillary Clinton private email server in her home which lacked the massive security measures that .gov servers can provide so this is not simply apples and apples.

I feel bad that this happened but if classified information is deemed to have been on her home email server than she is accountable regardless of who sent them....

Congress is going to call for a special prosecutor on this and if she forensically cleaned her home server than it is going to look bad and I think the investigation will begin into all the emails of all of her counterparts and they will build the case of emails that were addressed to her or emails that other people have addressed from her...

This is not going away....

Not going away is probably an understatement. And her judgment is rightfully called into question on this, legalities aside. I'm not an It professional nor a Presidential candidate, and I know better than to have official business on a private server. This is not rocket science!

a quarter million diplomatic cables -- which were supposed to be even under better security than .gov emails -- got passed on to Wikileaks.

And there have been other stories recently about the Chinese getting into our classified system.

Keep in mind that most people do not understand this "controversy," and are paying little attention.

Keep in mind, too, what happened with Bill. The more they witch hunted him, the more popular he became. And Hillary is already far, far ahead in the polls.

Interesting how Pain was not fit to be VP for using private email account to conduct State business.

How does the State Depart meet FOIA requests of court subpenas when they don't have the emails?
