Donald Trump will serve jury duty in NYC next week after getting fined for skipping 5 summonses
Source: NY Daily News
Republican Donald Trump says he wants to Make America Great Again as President but first, hes got to make it to jury duty.
Despite running for President and running a massive, multi-billion-dollar company, Mr. Trump will be at jury duty Monday," Alan Garten, general counsel to the Trump Organization, said Friday.
A Manhattan judge earlier this year fined The Donald $250 for ignoring five jury summonses since 2006.

(14,691 posts)of course they made him the foreman. Ugh.
Former Mayor Dinkins was excused from jury duty by lunch time because so many people wanted to meet him and shake his hand.

(1,150 posts)(as in, it turns out she/he is a relative or business associate of a party and lied about it) has ever been, by itself, grounds for appeal, but I think that the presence of he-who-lives-under-the-awful-furball might be the predecent-setter.
I've met an awful lot of s#!thead lawyers over the years (I gave up practicing years ago - I'm much better now but I can't think of a single one that wouldn't use her/his first peremptory strike to ditch that piece of sewer-pipe-clog-sludge.

(11,843 posts)Minnesota draws it's jury pool from Driver's License and Voter Registration data. I wonder if the fact that I have the same (uncommon) name as my father and don't use "Jr," (hated "Junior" since I was old enough to talk) has caused them to think we are the same person.
RiverNoord
(1,150 posts)And, chances are the case(s) you were summoned for would either be settled (civil) or pleaded out(criminal) a day or two before your service.
I'm a non-practicing Minnesota lawyer and have had 5 summons in about 10 years - never once even made it to a panel.
Of course, even if I had, as a lawyer, I'd almost certainly be shown the door during peremptory strikes.
I wouldn't worry about it - you might just end up with 5 summons in a couple of years and one will turn out to be a two-month-long business dispute trial. Then you'll look fondly back on all those years you weren't summoned while having your ability to stay awake tested to the limit .

(14,691 posts)in NYC for many years and was picked for 3 juries. When I got a jd summons I could count on being out of the office for two whole weeks regardless of whether I was picked for a jory.
That changed when they tightened up the rules regarding exemptions and the affluent couldn't avoid it anymore. Boy was there a difference in the jury pool after that. That change and the fact that now they have us just call in for the first couple of days means I haven't served more than 3 days by actually attending in a court house since 1996: http://www.nytimes.com/1996/01/07/nyregion/exemptions-for-jury-duty-tightened.htm They also don't need people as often - the time between summonses now is around 7 years.
In the 1970s I had just started a new job and got a jury duty summons. My employer told me to use the excuse which was valid at that time that I didn't have to serve because of being a woman. (I am not making this up.)

Anyone who has simply ignored 5 successive jury summonses should be straight-up disqualified for any national elected office. I guess successfully dodging the draft taught him that he really didn't have to get down in the muck with us peon 'citizens' (e.g., suckers) and perform any duties on behalf of the 'country' he's constantly dicked around with to get and stay rich.
First time I've stooped to say anything about this worthless piece of sewage since, well, ever - fucking media hound doesn't merit the time and consideration required to describe how utterly grotesque his behavior is.
I hope I've got it out my system...

God forbid if the Donald finds out there is something called a "grand jury." He'd insist on being seated on that one so he could "fire" of all the "losers" in the community, who are basically everyone except himself.

(10,857 posts)We are America, Land of the Evil, where we have figured out how to temporarily or permanently disenfranchise virtually every demographic we have.
And yet, we permit the Cluster B personality disorders--the criminals, assholes, and drama queens who ruin all our lives almost every day--to participate in politics and in civic duty, when WE FUCKING KNOW that they will not participate in the process fairly or properly.
Here's Trump, a pompous Narcissist who shouldn't be permitted to be in charge of the insect zoo at night, going in to decide the fate of unknown people, and every one of us knows that Trump's decisions will be entirely for himself and about himself, without a single empathetic thought for the accused.
Just including him in the process is a miscarriage of justice, and while there is no real justice in America, Americans still have a survival instinct. When are we going to permanently remove these clowns from politics, instead of letting them define politics?
