Biden calls Chattanooga shooter a 'perverted jihadist'

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday called the slaying of four Marines and a sailor at a Chattanooga reserve center the act of a "perverted jihadist."

Biden's comments came at a memorial to the five servicemen killed in a shooting rampage by Kuwait-born Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.

"These perverse ideologues, warped theocrats, they may be able to inspire a single lone wolf to commit a savage act, but they can never, never threaten who we are," Biden said. "When this perverted jihadist struck, everyone responded."

The vice president's strong words contrast with the official comments of investigators who have not yet been able to determine a motive behind the attack. The FBI has said it has not been able to determine whether the 24-year-old Abdulazeez was "radicalized" before the July 16 attacks and has been treating him as a homegrown violent extremist.

Do you believe that Jihadists and muslim are the same thing? I'm going to venture to guess that you do not think that all muslims are jihadist, but the logical conclusion of your thoughts as presented here lead to that. So from my view, it sounds like in your efforts to be unoffensive, you actually are being rather offensive. It's almost like saying we can't criticize Israeli policies, because doing so would be antisemitic criticism of all jews. I'd say attacking jihadists is spot on. I haven't been following this case much, but assuming what you're saying about his mental condition, then jihadist deserve to be attacked for exploiting a mentally ill person.

The term often refers to a politician inadvertently saying something publicly that they privately believe is true, but would ordinarily not say because it is politically damaging.

20. Well that's not quite true...

Pretty sure the other mass shooters didn't text verses form the Koran which basically suggest he was declaring war on the US for its policies regarding Muslims.

He also posted a pretty religious bit about life being a test “designed to separate the inhabitants of Paradise from the inhabitants of Hellfire.”

Not doubting he was suffering mental issues, but lots of people do and don't go kill a handful of US Servicemen.

Come on, why sugarcoat it, the guy was a Jihadi. Maybe not in any organized sense, but in his mind he was doing Allah's will and headed to paradise.

Good on Biden for calling it for what it is.
