Reid: Democratic party platform will include pro-gay marriage plank
By Alexander Bolton - 05/10/12 01:44 PM ET

The Democrats’ top leader in Congress said Thursday that the party’s platform will soon include a plank calling for the legalization of gay marriage.

“The president’s in favor of it — I’m sure it will be included,” said Reid.

..........................

President Obama said on Wednesday that same-sex marriage should be legal. He said his thinking on the topic evolved after mulling the Golden Rule.

Biden might have gotten a bit of a wild hare but I think the behind-the-scenes on this one would be just fascinating.

I can't wait to see this election. It's gonna be a doozy.

I had hoped that Democrats would endorse marriage rights, not just because it's right, but because it will do two things:

1) Force millions to reconsider their beliefs, and lead many to say, "Maybe the younger generation is right - I may not feel comfortable with it personally, but we've got to move forward." Just like with desegregation in the South, within just a few years, public opinion polling showed a very rapid shift on white public opinion in the South.

2) Force the Republicans to make a strategic choice - avoid the issue as much as possible, or clearly identify with a viewpoint that will certainly become a minority, "extremist" view within the next couple decades. If they choose the former, there are present base-mobilization issues, with the latter they will pay in the longer term, but also in the present term.

11. And from a political aspect this is exactly what they needed to get young people energized

Let's be serious, the last 4 years let down a lot of young voters who had hoped for more rapid signs of that "Change" that Obama promised. After George W. Bush forced the country so abruptly and harshly to the right, many were under the "Hope" that Obama was going to pull us far back enough to get us back to pre-Bush levels on a lot of issues.

That hasn't happened nearly as fast as many of us would have liked. However this move has energized the younger part of the base that might have re-considered their attachment to Obama in 2012 after working so hard for him in 2008.

The young people win you elections. They are the ones that give up their lives and travel all over the place to work for the campaign for next to nothing. They're the ones who canvass, door knock and phone bank until they're ready to drop. They are the ones willing to give up a year or more of their lives to work towards a cause. Older folks have families and careers and let's be honest, often times lack the energy to participate in many of these things.

Obama NEEDS these people more than ever and whether or not the Fox News aged crowd likes it, the announcements this past week just energized those people. Now it's not just about re-electing a Washington politician, now it's about fighting for gay rights and for many younger people, that's their friends and family and people they deeply care about. To younger people with more open minds, they know a ton of people that have come out to them and live openly gay around them. They are not just tolerant, they are accepting and warm.

That's what the Fox News people never understand. If you are an asshole bigot, people won't come out to you. If people don't come out to you, you think it's just a few abnormal people rather than people you see everyday and since you don't know any of these people you never see just how normal they are. Your ignorance has blocked you from ever knowing these people so you segment them off as strange and dangerous to your world and how it works. It's a sad existence really. So they'll keep fighting to keep their world "normal", even though more and more of their likeminded peers die off every day and the next few generations of people all disagree with them and gay marriage/gay rights isn't just a crazy thought held by leftists... it's INEVITABILITY as deemed by everyone.

Obama has those other generations, the ones ready to make Inevitability happen now, fired up and ready to go. His campaign needed this shot in the arm. Romney stands no chance now.

Bada-bing! It's like Joe Pesci with a baseball bat.

I'd feel sorry for Rmoney if he wasn't such a douchebag.

This is getting brutal, and Willard is doing it all to himself.

Running for POTUS is not like running for pres of the Cranbrook senior class. You get no points for bullying gays.

Hmm! Those last two sentences would make a good Tweet. Any surrogate wish to post it for me? Tnx.

Look at this. All we need now is a marijuana shift and things will change dramatically.
