Iowa GOP chair: God raised Ted Cruz specifically to be our next president
Source: RawStory
GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz is the anointed one, according to Iowa state campaign chairman Matt Schultz.
On Friday night at the Iowa State Fair, Cruz was joined by business owners whove had financial setbacks as a result of refusing services to same-sex couples. Calling them heroes, Cruz told a crowd of about 2,500 that Christians are being persecuted and there is a war on faith, the Dallas Morning News reports.
We need someone who will go to Washington and throw the money-changers out, Schultz said, referencing the Gospel story in which Jesus throws merchants out of a temple. God raises special men and women to protect his people, and I believe this is one of those moments in time.
Ted Cruz is that man who God has prepared for this moment in time.
Cruz was joined by Dick and Betty Odgaard, a Mennonite couple from the Detroit area who chose to close their wedding chapel business rather than perform same-sex weddings after being fined for discrimination. He was also joined by Phillip Monk, an Air Force senior master sergeant who is against the repeal of the militarys former anti-gay policy of dont ask, dont tell and same-sex marriage.
Its not enough for these advocates to tear down marriage, Cruz cautioned about the Supreme Courts landmark same-sex marriage ruling. Now the Washington elites want to silence those who believe in the biblical definition of marriage. Their goal is to keep people of faith from being able to live by the dictates of their conscience.

(11,175 posts)I remember when people in both major parties ran for President because they wanted the job, not because they were following orders from an invisible sky master.
But, you're right, it is lame. I hope it's just a phase God is going through.

MrModerate
(9,753 posts)During the primaries to ensure enthusiastic turnout among the zealots, and then tack back toward the centre during the general election.
But this time they've simply sailed around the bend and won't be able to find their way back. And whoever ends up running for the Dems is not going to let the electorate forget all the crazy, stupid, and vile things the Republicans have said during this primary season.
For me, 2016 is going to be about downticket candidates showing the same sanity, fortitude, and common sense that we at DU expect of our national pols, and successfully contrasting themselves with the howling baboons on the right.

(62,433 posts)The actual state chair, while not one of my favorite people, is not that crazy.
Matt Schultz, our former SoS, is that fucking stupid and crazy. But he is not the state GOP chair. That would be Jeff Kaufmann.

(6,409 posts)Let me see if I understand this. If I refuse to bake a cake for a gay wedding, and the Supreme Court says I have to, then I suffer a financial setback. If I refuse to bake a cake for a gay wedding, and the Supreme Court says it's OK, then I don't lose any money.
