Police: Gunman in deadly TV shooting shoots himself

Source: CBS News

MONETA, Va. -- A suspect in the deadly shooting of a television reporter and cameraman Wednesday morning shot himself, CBS Roanoke affiliate WDBJ-TV reports, citing the Virginia State Police.
The station previously reported, citing the state police, that the suspect died of his wounds. The suspect's condition is critical.

Multiple sources confirmed to CBS News that the suspect has been identified as Vester Flanagan.

The suspect, described as a disgruntled station employee, used the name Bryce Williams on television. A Twitter account belonging to a person using that name posted two videos of the shooting from the gunman's perspective. The account has since been suspended.

and speedy recovery. He shouldn't be able to take the easy way out after his crime.

Kill yourself if you want, but these other people? Just a sad state of affairs.

the TV station, and in what manner? Did he quit? Was he fired? We're these two involved? Hopefully he lives to tell the tale, or his unredacted manifesto is released.

I can't imagine killing anyone that I have worked with.
And I've worked with some real 'gems.'

So sad for the families.

pictures of the victims and as little coverage of the shooter as possible. If we keep making these people famous, it's going to make more people who are desperate for attention to believe that this is the way you get it.

Sad state of affairs we can always remember the names of the killers, but rarely do we remember the names of the victims. Who remembers the names of any of the victims in the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal massacre? Or the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing? Or the Boston Marathon bombing? We sure remember the names of the perpetrators.

It's important, certainly that we need to understand that these are not monsters, that these are people. To call them monsters reduces the impact because we can say to ourselves "these people were monsters, and I'm not a monster." But I'll wager that these people never imagined that they themselves could do these things until they could. Their behaviour is monstrous, but remember that they were perfectly law-abiding citizens until they weren't.
