Among the high profile names of presidential candidates such as Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Hillary Clinton is another one you probably will recognize.

According to the Federal Election Commission, Forrest Gump – the fictional hero of Winston Groom's 1986 book and a 1994 movie by the same name – is seeking the Democratic nomination for president. "Gump" filed his candidacy paperwork Aug. 25. He lists his home as Edgewood, Maryland (and not Greenbow, Alabama as the fictional character) but the name of his campaign committee rings true: "Stupid is as stupid does."
