Walker says wall on Canadian border worth reviewing

WASHINGTON Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker says that building a wall along the country's norther border with Canada is a legitimate issue that merits further review.
Republican candidates have generally taken a get-tough approach on deterring illegal immigration, but they usually focus on the border with Mexico.
The Wisconsin governor was asked whether he wanted to build a wall on the northern border, too, during an interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."
Walker says law enforcement officials in New Hampshire brought up the topic of building a wall along the U.S.-Canadian border during a recent town hall meeting. He says they raised some legitimate concerns, so it's a "legitimate issue for us to look at."
The U.S.-Canada boundary is the longest international border in the world at 5,525 miles long.

Pretty stupid. Pretty insulting to our brothers and sisters in Canada (though many are probably laughing like we do most of the time at GOP antics).
Seriously, global warming is a hoax, Obama is the most divisive president ever, Planned Parenthood doesn't do women's health, women should not have access to birth control and should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term even if it threatens their life or happened because of a rape or incest, don't raise the minimum wage, repeal ACA and replace it with nothing, don't support women earning the same as men for the same jobs, fracking is safe, coal is good, a peace agreement with Iran is bad, the trans pacific partnership that will cost America millions of jobs and compromise our environmental and other regulations/laws is good...
Stupidity? I guess take your pick...

(441 posts)The first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, constructed the Great Wall of China from 220206 BC, Emperor Hadrian of Rome erected Hadrian's Wall in Northern England around 122 AD, and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) built and maintained the Berlin Wall, aka, the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart" from 1961 to 1989.
Now, Scott Walker wants to build the Great White North Barrier Wall against the terrorism of socialized medicine, short (78 days, their current longest) election cycles, fair minimum wage laws (okay, comparatively fair) and all I can say is:
For keeping alive the spirit of progressive solutions to geopolitical problems, THANK GOD for the GOP!!!

Plus the Great Lakes
Then the Mexico-US border is another 2,000 mi.
Then we need all the INS people to man the walls.
Who the hell is going to pay for 7,500 miles of walls, plus the 10 of thousands of new INS agents?

Also, I haven't noticed Canadians wanting to come to the U.S. They have socialized medicine, they don't want our profit based health care. They have a nice social safety net. Why on earth would they want to become U.S. citizens?

I heard one seriously saying that the extreme shortage of doctors in Nunavut proves that socialized medicine does not work. Of course, that a significant part of Nunavut is north of the Arctic Circle, and the rest of it isn't that much south of it has nothing whatsoever to do with doctors not wanting to practice there. Or that the total population of the territory is less than forty thousand.

(63,912 posts)that they can't get at home. Yet when investigated, it is not something the patient badly needs and it is not available to him under Canadian health care. From what I've heard if you need care in Canada you get your care. There are waits for some things but not for things that must be attended to right away.

Before 9/11 and Homeland Security, we used to cross the border all the time, no problem. Everyone knew the best view of Niagara Falls was from the Canadian side, and the bars stayed open later in Canada.
The biggest problem with Canadians crossing the border today is that they come to malls in the US because the exchange rates make Chinese made clothes cheaper here. The clothes are purchased, stripped of price tags in the parking lot and packed into suitcases to avoid paying customs duties. Canadian litterbugs; who knew?

(24,692 posts)And ban all imports and exports as well. Their base seems to view foreigners (either as potential immigrants or current poor workers) as bad. This way we will be isolated from the ill-effects of their presence in the world.
That would prevent all immigration - a plus in the eyes of their base. It would keep international tourists from visiting the US but Americans would have no choice but to vacation here so tourism may not suffer much. And we wouldn't have to worry about trade deficits anymore.
I think a GOP candidate could go a long way with these kinds of policies. Their base doesn't like immigrants (and OTHERS in general), doesn't travel to other countries much anyway and doesn't like trade either.
Fortunately, my son was joking (I hope).

1) Canada is cold
2) I saw on "Game of Thrones" that those dudes made a giant wall out of ice
