$20 found in San Francisco leads to $1 million lottery win

Source: AP

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco Bay Area man won $1 million in the California Lottery after buying a winning ticket with money he found at the airport.

The California Lottery said Sunday that Hubert Tang had not bought a lottery ticket in 10 years.

When he found a $20 bill on the street outside San Francisco International Airport last week, he used it to buy two scratch-off tickets at a market in Millbrae.

One of them led to the $1 million top prize.

Someone had written "Lucky Dollar: Good for winning the lottery" on it, so when I had the chance, I bought a lottery ticket with it. I didn't win anything, not even a consolation prize.

The company he was working for paid the Christmas bonus in lottery tickets one year. My husband got $50 face value which only paid him $2. It really sucked.

It also pissed off a lot of the people who were hoping to have cash for their bonus. Not one of the people my husband talked to got as much as the face value of the lottery tickets in return. Many refused the tickets since gambling was against their religion - and they got nothing at all.

The company never did that again - in fact, they stopped giving bonuses at all.

I was so glad when he left that job. It sucked big time and the lottery ticket fiasco was only a part of it.
