Survivor guitarist slams unauthorized use of 'Eye of the Tiger' at Kim Davis freedom rally
Source: Daily Dot
As Davis walked out on stage, hands held high by her attorney and 2016 GOP candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (Sen. Ted Cruz was also in attendance), the 1982 Survivor hit "Eye of the Tiger" blared from the speakers.
There's just one problem: The guys who wrote the song are horrified.

I reached out to Survivor lead guitarist (and the only consistent, surviving member of the band since 1977) Frankie Sullivan on Facebook and Twitter, and he quickly responded with a public Facebook post decrying Davis's use of his song to contribute to her newfound image as a Christian-rights hero.
Sullivan said firmly that he did not grant anyone the rights to use the anthem at the rally. "I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin (toilet paper)," Sullivan added.

Guess the rightwing has to steal music from everyone else, lest they be stuck playing nothing but Pat Boone at all their rallies.

(235 posts)Think about how many movies, commercials, etc. this song has been featured in. It has been a reliable income stream for the past 30+ years and you can be certain the guys who wrote it take a very serious interest in how it's used.

(22,037 posts)Republicans are too often like lemmings in that they tend to follow one point of view. Creative thinkers are not welcome in their cult-like world. Their ambition is to express uniqueness.
In contrast, look at the GOP field. Is there really any difference in any of their policies?

(210 posts)Can't stand the song, but I must admit a newfound respect for the artist. Right wingers always steal music because being a Republican means using others creativity and hard work for your advantage.

(6,604 posts)While campaigning in New Jersey in 1984, Ronald Reagan said in his speech: "America's future rests in a thousand dreams inside your hearts. It rests in the message of hope in songs so many young Americans admire: New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen. And helping you make those dreams come true is what this job of mine is all about."
And some people lapped up nonsense like this.

(17,505 posts)And they usually have no clue what the song is about because they never get past the title.
"Fortunate Son" is not a song praising the likes of Dubya.... even if the 2 word title might sound like it.
"Losing my Religion" is not about actually losing religion. It's about being mistaken and losing a girlfriend.

(7,865 posts)I recall the way they shamelessly used Bruce Springsteen back in the Reagan years. The GOP does not surprise me with it's gall.
As others upthread have pointed out they would not have much music to work with if they had to find artists that agreed with them.
