US cop faces death threats for denouncing ‘racist’ chief

By AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE | September 10, 2015

LOS ANGELES, United States, Sep 10 – A white US police officer who turned in his chief for allegedly making a series of racist slurs in reaction to a black woman’s complaint said Wednesday he fears for his life.

Officer Alex Stone, of the small city of Clatskanie, in the western state of Oregon, told AFP that he has received death threats from the local community and been racially abused since he and a fellow officer filed a complaint earlier this summer.

“Just yesterday one of the local business owners said he wanted to take me into the woods and shoot me in the head. Another said he wanted to string me up by a noose,” said the 36-year-old officer. “People are emailing me saying they hope I get shot in the head.

“My wife got run off the road twice… and my three children are scared,” he added. “I feel like people are telling me to leave.”

Hoover was placed on paid administrative leave after the complaint and retired soon afterwards, receiving praise from the city for his services.

In a letter to the local paper last week, mayor Diane Pohl thanked Hoover “for a job well done.”

“Just take it easy on the elk, bear and fish that you will have more time to pursue,” she added.

Stone said that while fellow police officers in Clatskanie, home to about 2,000 residents, and across the country have voiced support for his actions, he has faced a backlash from the community and city officials.

“Not one city official has contacted me or my family to see if we are OK

for his own safety and that of his family.

I have NOT read about anything anyone in the GOVERNMENT of the municipality did to him. Thus he has no right of action against the Municipality. As to the people of the town, he has the right to sue any one of them that did an hostile act to him and his family, but only as to the act that person did and the burden on proof will be on the officer.

The Municipality is NOT responsible for the actions of its residents. The Mayor supports the Police Chief, but that does not mean the Mayor is leading the charge against the officer. AS to his wife and children being chased off the road, any lawsuit has to be against the person who did that, if that can be determined (which I doubt, most people in such situations are more concerned about their vehicle and children then in writing down a license number).

You can NOT sue for a town disliking you, you can only sue for something someone did, and then the lawsuit is against that person UNLESS you can show that people in the Government of the Municipality are involved with the incident. I have NOT read anything that the Government of the Municipality has done anything except support the Police Chief, and that is NOT illegal. I have NOT read about anyone being charged for the various attacks on the officer and his family, which sounds like no one knows who did them and thus no one can prove anyone did anything (the key is NOT that something was done, but proving some specific person did it).

Sorry, the officer will need more evidence then presented in the article and it sounds like he does not have any as to the attacks on him. He has evidence of racial slurs by the Police Chief, but that is a different issue. If the Mayor or someone else in the Government of the Municipality was involved in retaliation for the officer reporting the racial slurs, then the officer would have a case, but right now it does not look like anyone in the Government of the Municipality is involved (The Mayor of the Municipality did put the police chief on administrative leave).

According to this article anyway. It's city officials and townspeople that are giving him the hard time.

This little enclave of ignorance in my home state has brought shame on us all. Thanks to Officer Stone for his bravery and doing right.
I hope he leaves and gets a job with our police force in Portland, we need more like him here.
