Refugees Crowd at the Gates of Fortress Europe

Source: Time

They will not be willing to simply turn back

Rebecca Collard / Röszke, Hungary @rebeccacollard 6:31 PM ET

Hundreds of refugees pushed up against the gates of Fortress Europe on Tuesday, chanting “open, open, open.” Hungarian police officers stood ready as the crowd in the no-man’s-land between Hungary and Serbia became increasingly angry.

On Tuesday morning, the area was a major highway and the main border crossing between Hungary and Serbia, now it is completely shut and an officer said it’s the “property of the border police” and journalists are not permitted.

A little further down, refugees staged a sit-in demanding to be allowed to cross the border.

Thousands of people wait on the Serbian side, desperate to enter the European Union after making the costly, dangerous and difficult trek from their homes to Turkey and up from southern Europe to reach this point.

If Serbia is that concerned that it "cannot deal will the influx" then maybe *it* should
close its borders rather than keeping an ever-wider gateway in the belief that everyone
will just go through to "somewhere else"?

will indeed pass through to "somewhere else". Who the hell would willingly stop in Serbia?

They aren't really welcome, and the quality of life is too low for them...

Germany, Sweden and England are the "promised lands"

Their behavior is despicable.

I called their embassy a few weeks ago to let them know. It was the least I could do.

And I'm sure that their embassy *really* cares about the opinion of
some unaffected stranger in Bumfuck, USA ...

It's just a shame that you couldn't manage the stage *above*
"the least I could do" which is to think about the situation rather
than just joining in with "condemnation" from your happy high horse
of six thousand miles separation from anything meaningful ...

2. First World exploitation of the Third World is one reason for this crisis.

If exploitation were replaced by assistance, these people wouldn't have to leave their homelands to find work.

They should move the asylum process UN help, near to the border fences and bus the refuges who finish the paperwork directly through Hungary.

“The most important thing is that people get access to the asylum process,” said Babar Baloch as spokesperson for the UN refugee agency. He says an estimated 80 percent of those crossing are from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, countries embroiled in severe conflict."

I have a friend who volunteered to help at the new refugee centers in Israel. They are overwhelmed with people who are homeless, "Country-less" forever. WW2 refugee crisis was big, this modern day crisis is HUGE, much, much worse.

I don't think America should spend another dime on military help to those 3 countries. Rip away any of those countries money from their banks and get their bank to the UN to help care for 12/18 million refugees. And sanction the hell out of Assads buddies Russia & China and make them pay and provide a Country for several million displaced people.
