A former U.S. Border Patrol agent, who claims he found God before shooting his estranged wife's boyfriend earlier this year, was sentenced to 99 years in prison Wednesday. He was convicted of attempted capital murder Tuesday.
Alberto Montelongo, 41, was sentenced to 99 years in prison on one count of attempted capital murder and fined $10,000. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined $10,000 on one count of continuous family violence.
The two sentences, the maximum allowed on both charges, will be served concurrently.
Defense lawyer Miguel Cervantes said he was disappointed in the jury's verdict and will go through court documents before making a decision on whether they will appeal.
