Winona Man Accused of Having Sex With Minors While Teaching in Cameroon and Togo
6 hours ago

(ABC 6 News) – A Winona man, who teaches overseas, is accused of having sex with minors while serving as an educator abroad. According to the federal criminal complaint filed Tuesday, 50-year-old Thomas Page has been traveling and living overseas since 1990, residing in African countries including Cameroon and Togo. He returns to Winona for vacations and summer break.

He taught science and math at the American School of Yaounde in Cameroon from 2007 to 2011, then at the British School Lome from 2011 to 2012. The complaint alleges that Page engaged in sexual activity with young boys during that time.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security began investigating Page in June 2012, while he was living in Togo, after receiving information that he was engaging in illicit sexual conduct with male minors, according to the complaint. During that investigating, federal officials discovered he had been charged in Cameroon for sexually abusing young boys during his time at the school.

According to the complaint, he was arrested in Togo and initially denied all allegations of sexual abuse. He told federal officials he knew the boys from the local beach, and some would come to his house. According to the complaint, he said he would buy them things like food, and help pay for their taxis or school fees.

especially when it comes to teachers. A handful of rotten apples who use their position as a teacher to do these things.

Send him back and let him go through their criminal justice system.

We shouldn't harbor people in the USA if they broke laws in other countries. I think our child sexual assault laws are very similar to theirs.

American's are prohibited from having sex with anyone under 18 years old in a foreign nation, even if the local age of consent is lower and the sex is perfectly legal in that nation. The penalty for violating that law is 30 years in prison, and because it's federal, you're required to serve 85% of the sentence before you can be paroled. A 25 year old American who sleeps with a 17 year old German, which is perfectly legal in Germany, will spend 25 years in an American prison...ironically, more time than a 50 year old American would get for raping an American 5 year old in most American states.
