Land and Water Conservation Fund Expires, Jeopardizing Critical Work
Source: Nature Conservancy
ARLINGTON, VA | October 01, 2015
At midnight last night, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) expired after Congress failed to take the needed action to renew it. LWCF has been one of Americas premier conservation programs for 50 years.
The Nature Conservancy responded with the following statement from its President and CEO, Mark R. Tercek:
The expiration of LWCF is terrible news for the country, because the program has benefited all of us. This is a failure to live up to our countrys long-standing commitment and responsibility to protect our natural heritage.
America would not look the same without LWCF. It has done everything from protecting some of our most iconic places to creating local parks and ballfields in communities across the nation. Now, for the first time in 50 years, we face the very real possibility of finding out the hard way what our future looks like without this important conservation work.

(24,710 posts)Inaction has costs. Failing to reauthorize LWCF puts a long list of conservation projects at risk. It also disrupts the smart balance the Fund sought to create by offsetting the use of one natural resource with the protection of anotherby directing funds from offshore oil and gas revenue toward conservation."
Who removed this from the short term budget 75 day budget-----------------who was the representative-------------my guess----------------------------- Paul Ryan
The key word "CONSERVATION"

Anyway, I rec'd your OP not because this makes me happy, but because I'd like to see it make the Greatest Page where more people will see it.
