Americans Fall In Love With Obamacare As New Poll Shows Growing ACA Support

According to the latest PPP Poll, more Americans support Obamacare than oppose it as Democrats have become unified in their support of the ACA.
PPP discussed the results, Evidence continues to mount that the Affordable Care Act is just not a liability for Democrats anymore. Nationally we find that 42% of voters support it to 40% who are opposed. Those numbers are in line with what weve found in most swing states where weve polled on it over the course of this year. Its a far cry from when we used to consistently find voters opposed to it by a 10-15 point margin nationally and in key states. One big reason for the change is that Democrats (73%) are more unified in their support of it than Republicans (70%) are in their opposition to it.
It turns out that as more Americans have gained first-hand experience with the health care law, they have liked the results. Obamacare as a term has been demonized by years of Republican lies and smears, but the law itself is not the political anchor that Republicans had hoped it would be.
The worse news for Republicans is that approval of the law has been steady since people started experiencing the benefits of the ACA. Obamacare is closer to becoming a political asset than it is to being a liability for Democrats.
As more people gain coverage, it is going to be difficult to impossible for Republicans to be able to repeal the law. What makes 2016 so urgent for Obamacare critics is that if they fail to win the White House, it is likely that the ACA will be the law of the land for a very long time.

(15,682 posts)Freaking anti-vaxers have caused Whooping Cough outbreak there. Family, especially grandma, are forbidden to visit without getting current $200.00 plus vaccine. Obamacare? 100 percent covered. No copay. No nothing. I love Obamacare.

People are won over to Obamacare, got to like it, changed 180*s...

(3,384 posts)The GOP is just about toast.
Covered California numbers are out and shown as a success. The GOP will be seen as the LIARS that they are by voters.
The GOP will then in 2016's election bids spout about how ObamaCare is actually ROMNEY Care and that Republicans were only fighting about additional spending or trying to "make it less government run" - which it is not, only more lies.
The Republican-lead House has now voted more than 50 times to repeal it... hard to defend those votes as a mistake. Citizens in GOP lead states that have no ACA health insurance exchanges are now taking a closer look at just how good of a job their Congressmen are doing... POORLY is the answer.
ObamaCare is going to be the fatal blow to the GOP that will take a beating for 10 or 15 years.
It's a NO WIN situation for the GOP. To paraphrase Grover Norquist: it won't be long before the GOP "is shrunk down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

(260 posts)I sign people up for the ACA almost everyday, both Medicaid and Premium. They can choose a plan and not worry about bankruptcy. One by one more people will understand the benefits of this system and realize the right wingers have been lying to them from the start.

(3,544 posts)Me: 61, My wife 63. She's retired. I'm unemployed and have been unable to find acceptable work. No one wants a 61 year old IT guy.
Without the ACA, I don't know what we would have done for insurance. Sure the deductibles are very high, but at least it's a safety net for us in the event of a huge medical disaster.
When Bernie is president, I look forward to Healthcare for all. A single payer system.

(3,544 posts)I tell people if they have a job, to keep it. Do the best you can to keep it. The job market totally sucks, especially if you're over 50. I don't care what corporate media is telling us. They're all "bought and paid for" by the 1% anyway.
Never in my life did I expect, being an IT professional, to be unemployed at 61. I was suppose to work til 65, and retire gracefully.
2008 took all that away. Now I am in the hole every month, no future for a job, and have to retire at 62(reduced income), just to make ends meet.
The Bush years killed this country in a big way. I only hope someday, I can recover.

(3,544 posts)But you never know. They have done nothing to stop it from happening again. Again, Bernie will be addressing breaking up the big banks. That should help.
I was lucky. I moved my money to a CD a year prior. Didn't make much, but didn't lose a dime.

(4,490 posts)At 60 he has the knowledge to do IT, but is stuck in a low wage sales job he had to take after the 2008 crises. His Obamacare plan isn't the best, but it covers him, mom, and costs about $500 less a month with a bit better coverage. Love isn't so much the right feeling as relief at not losing everything.

(3,544 posts)Lost my good paying job due to attrition. Had to resort to contracting for several years, never knowing when you'll be let go, or when a new job will appear. It's pretty much the only thing out there now a days. Contracting sucks.
In the past year, after a layoff, I decided not to re enter the rat race. The stress was simply too much to handle. And not really being in IT in a full time capacity really hurt. IT changes all the time. If you're out of it for a year, its equivalent to 5 years of lost knowledge.
I have to say, if it weren't for Obama and the ACA, I'd be in deep shit as for insurance coverage.
I now live on my wife's social security, her pension, and a small pension I have. It's not a pretty picture. We're in the hole every month, until I can start collecting social security, which is a year away. I am counting the days.

(5,751 posts)that the acronym should be PPACA because Patient Protection was the part that had even more impact for people than the ACA part. PP was eliminating the "pre-existing condition" from the future lexicon.
PP was much more than that. Too bad there are so many great brewpubs in Madison.

(1,433 posts)what percentage of the 40% who don't approve of the ACA really want a single payer system.
Hope you are able to hang in long enough to get on Medicare. Good luck.

(3,544 posts)They most likely have insurance through an employer. In smaller businesses, some are forced to send their employees to the ACA, and supply them a credit on their paycheck. Especially if you make under 32k a year.
The ACA was a great start and couldn't have happened in a more timely matter for us. But it's far from perfect. That's another story. The sooner people learn about single payer, the better. I'm counting on Bernie to get is right.

(108,990 posts)Rethugs hold the majority in both houses now. We would have to have 60 Senators and a majority in the House, despite all their gerrymandering.
I don't know how anyone expects Bernie to fix that.
