Syrian Army Advances With Help Of Russian Strikes; Putin Reaches Out To Saudis

Source: Reuters

Sun Oct 11, 2015 3:21pm EDT

Russian warplanes pounded Syrian rebels unaffiliated with Islamic State on Sunday, insurgents said, helping Moscow's ally Bashar al-Assad reclaim territory and dealing a fresh setback to the strategy of Washington and its allies.

President Vladimir Putin - who has infuriated Assad's enemies in the United States, Europe, Turkey and the Arab world by bombing the rebels to protect him - reached out to one of the Syrian leader's fiercest opponents by meeting the powerful defense minister of Saudi Arabia.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a group that monitors the 4-year-old conflict, said the Syrian military and its Lebanese Hezbollah militia allies had taken control of Tal Skik, a highland area in Idlib province, after fierce Russian bombing.

That brings Syrian government forces closer to insurgent-held positions along the main highway that links Syria's principal cities. The area is held by a rebel alliance that excludes Islamic State fighters.

Well, if that just doesn't sew it all up, I don't know what does!!

Seriously, an otherwise rational, thinking, not unintelligent person saying something like that in the 21st century has lost all credibility, shed along with their credulity.

The firmly held belief that the god of Abraham and Isaac is a living entity able to transcend time and space, breath universes, galaxies, solar systems, stars, planets and life forms into existence with a thought and could or would be offended by the whisp of a somehow hurtful mention by a sentient being on a backwater planet in an insignificant, second rate galaxy in the corner of a third rate cluster.......

IS INTELLECTUALLY PRIMITIVE THINKING.

Grow the fuck up already. Join the rest of us here in the future. Your god is no more real than the gods of the Romans and the Greeks.

That was hidden, BTW....and I'll take that risk again, for you and your oh, so condescending bullshit.

From this thread back in January of 2012

I've been looking at this thread for two days now, and keep coming back to this post.

The other night I said to myself that I had no real desire to take you on with your utter condescending bullshit, but dammit, it has been on my mind since then and I am going to respond. I don't give a fuck if you don't like what I am about to say and I really don't give a fuck if you alert on it and it gets hidden. You were an asshole to me in your post above and it deserves a response.

In your response to White Wolf above you said, in reference to your reply to me;
"Did I say eternal damnation? No I did not."

You didn't have to say it directly you pompous ass, but you must take me for a total nitwit if you think I can't read between the lines of what you wrote.

So let me break it down for you, since I KNOW you think you have been so very clever indeed.

"To each his own"
This is a typical, bullshit laden, passive aggressive opener which basically says "You are entitled to have your false and wrong positions as far as I am concerned."

And you follow that utter claptrap up with;

"and I say that one day your knees will bow,"
This sort of thing is absolutely no different than the commands of the inquisitors to confess or die. "And I say" - Oh really? You DO, do you? Based on what? Personal experience?

"That one day your knees will bow"
Really? "one day" eh? And what day is that. hmmm? I know...the day I die, right? That is of course what you mean. "You'll know I was right on the day you die cause you will meet my god and you will bow before him and he will pass judgement on your life". THAT is what your statement means. Of course, it is the perfect response because well, if I don't meet him on the day I die I can't come back to you and get my money back, now can I? No one has EVER come back from the dead and said "You know, that entire story is bullshit". Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE DEAD, THAT'S WHY.

"like it or not. So you have fun now."
More passive aggressive bullshit. It sounds so innocuous - so sweet and innocent. Here's what it really means;

"If you don't buy this line of bullshit that I am so convinced of and NEED you to believe in too (because if there are ANY doubters it sets up the possibility that it is indeed a bullshit story and we just can't have that, now can we?), you will burn for all eternity, so you had better enjoy yourself now, bub because I know what's coming for you, you damned atheist, you."

"Like it or not"

Go fuck yourself. Hows that?

What's funny is that this post will get alerted on for my little statement above, if nothing else, but yours - the one in which you so cleverly and I might add, gleefully, damned me to the torture of eternal fire because I don't buy the line of ancient, Bronze age bullshit you hold so dear, will stand because....well...you are being a compassionate Christian, aren't you? You are trying to help me, right? Fuck you.

You believe what you believe because of CULTURAL REASONS and nothing else. It isn't historical, it isn't factual and it isn't reality. You believe in the god of Abraham and Isaac and his alleged son because of where you were born and who brought you up. If you were born in another place or indeed another time, your perception of the afterlife and the divine would be TOTALLY different.

I am willing to bet that I know more about the history of your faith, the history of the church that started it, the book of stories and myths it is based on and the basis for those myths than you will ever know.

So don't profess to tell me that "like it or not, my knees will bow" because I would REFUSE to bow down to any god so horrible and lacking in any decent attributes as the one you are so convinced is real. Your god is a baby killing, misogynistic, childish, genocidal maniac according to the book about him and his supposed son is just an upstart, latecomer to a pantheon already overcrowded with much better examples.

The story of Jesus is an allegorical tale for the movement of the sun and the stars through the heavens. THAT'S IT. It is a PLAY. A Passion Play, but a play nonetheless. He was born of a virgin in a cave on or about the winter solstice. His birth was attended by 3 wise men. He "impressed the elders at 12", he began his ministry at 30 and "died and was reborn" at 33 on or about the Spring Equinox. He had 12 followers. All these things are Astrological and Astronomical in nature and origin, NOT historical and they form a motif that is, as I said in another post, shared by literally dozens of other savior god-men that predate him by thousands of years

What is more important? To believe the moral or the story? Is it more important to understand and take to heart the moral that success comes to the prepared or is it more important to believe that 3 little pigs actually built houses and a Wolf blew 2 of the 3 down?

A Jury voted 5-1 to hide this post on Sat Feb 4, 2012, 04:29 AM. Reason: This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

And so, for you to tell me that "Time will tell", just REEKS of your Christian superiority, doesn't it? All us nasty heathens will surely get ours in the end, won't we?

I've got a thought, and it differs little from the sentiments above;

Kiss my ass with your bullshit, iron age superstitions.

So pious, so pontific, so superior, so impudent.

So boring. So incredibly predictable.

"Who gives tuppence for your bloviating?"

Not to mention so hilariously irrelevant! "Tuppence"? Nicely done, Mr. Dickens, nicely done indeed. I feel horribly chastised now, whatever shall I do?

Get on with your bad self, Joe. Down the road of self assured authority, thinking the things you think because other people told you to think them OR ELSE!

What is so amusing about people like you is that you have absolutely no idea in the least just how incredibly insulting you are when you say things like the above. You think you are just giving me some friendly, free advice about eternity that I had better listen to....OR ELSE!

Nope, not a "young, lapsed Catholic". An old, wise, former Episcopalian who is not bitter and angry in the least. It's just that people like you don't care to have their rank, bullshit, couched language pointed out to them.

"Time will tell" alright, and your revenge is best served with box seats, isn't it? So you can peer down into hell to see the suffering of the fools? Right? Isn't that part of the prize? To watch souls burn with a fire that can not be quenched? And you, like every single one of your sick, perverted, sheep-like believing brethren, look forward to those box seats with hand rubbing glee.

How terribly disappointed you'll be to discover it was all bullshit, all along, and you wasted so much of your mental energy putting stock in an ancient, irrelevant, Hebrew desert war-god and his alleged son.

You'll go far .. in the wrong direction. Robert Jastrow of NASA had it right, when he stated:

' “For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.”
