Egypt flights on hold as UK says bomb may have caused Russian crash

Source: The Guardian

The British government has suspended all flights to the UK from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh after declaring it believes the Russian plane that crashed over Sinai may have been brought down by an explosive device.

A spokesperson for David Cameron said flights due to take off from Sharm el-Sheikh to the UK had been delayed on Wednesday evening while security assessments were carried out. It said there would be also be no more departures in the other direction on Wednesday.

It is the first statement by any country that it believes a bomb or other device could have downed the flight, as Russian and Egyptian authorities investigate.

The prime minister’s spokesperson said: “While the investigation is still ongoing we cannot say categorically why the Russian jet crashed. But as more information has come to light we have become concerned that the plane may well have been brought down by an explosive device.

Sinai plane crash: Sharm flights to UK delayed amid bomb fears

Flights from Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh to the UK have been delayed amid concerns that the Russian jet was brought down by an "explosive device".

All flights due to leave the holiday resort for Britain this evening are affected, to allow UK experts to assess security, Downing Street said.

Delays had been brought in as a "precautionary measure" after "more information has come to light".

Russian Airbus 321 crashed on Saturday, killing all 224 people on board.

on the plane by ISIS.

Take it or leave it. It's not as if US intelligence is always correct. But in this case it may very well be true.

Yes, that's right, the British equivalent of the NSA has, as its slogan, "make a complex world yours". They openly admit they want to recruit people who want to own the world.

a small explosive at the rear or in the cargo hold, or structural failure if the repairs from 2001 weren't followed closely through the years for deterioration.

Personally, I'm naturally a little bit wary of airline maintenance and security integrity once you get outside the first-world countries into the "fringes." I wouldn't rule out somebody on the ground crew or security taking a bribe to let a suspicious bag get loaded, or possibly even an ISIS sympathizer on the crew.

Irish Aviation Authority stops flights to Egypt

The Irish Aviation Authority has told Irish airline operators not to operate to or from Sharm el Sheikh Airport, Egypt or in the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula airspace, until further notice.

The IAA says this precautionary measure was taken in line with information released by the UK earlier today.

The British Government released a statement saying that it is looking into the possibility that the plane which crashed in Egypt at the weekend "may well have been brought down by an explosive device".
