State Department denies TransCanada's request to delay Keystone XL review

Source: Omaha World Herald

The State Department has rejected TransCanada's request that it suspend consideration of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

TransCanada released a statement Wednesday, saying it respected the State Department's decision.

"Our efforts will continue to demonstrate that Keystone XL is in the national interest of the United States – just as five reports and 17,000 pages of State Department review have demonstrated over the past seven-plus years," said company spokesman Mark Cooper.

TransCanada asked for the delay while Nebraska officials review its route through the state. Last month, the company applied to the Nebraska Public Service Commission for route approval after opponents went to court, challenging the law under which the route had been approved by then-Gov. Dave Heineman.

I've visited Nebraska twice, once in the summer and once over the holidays. I stayed in Bennet the second time I was there.

And of course my favorite Nebraska town is Hazard.

The pipeline will destroy the environment.
