Troy Goode’s family considering lawsuit against Southaven after hogtieing death
Source: MYFoxMemphis
Our information is that Troy Goode died a rather slow death over a period of an hour and a half or so, and that death was caused by lack of oxygen getting in the blood, attorney Tim Edwards told FOX13. His heart had to work extremely hard trying to compensate, and ultimately his heart gave out.
Thats what family attorneys believe happened on the night of July 18, when Goode died after being hogtied by Southaven police.
Despite attorneys sending four separate, certified letters requesting Goodes autopsy report and any information pertaining to what the medical examiner may have found, they are still empty handed.
We are not able to get any response from the medical examiner. Edward told FOX13. And it's been difficult getting information from any of the Mississippi Governmental entities.

It's going on four months since this needless death, and the family cannot seem to get any answers, and are unable to even file a life insurance claim because they have never been given a death certificate, it seems like the City is trying to cover this up or hide something.
And to make matters worse there is a law that requires the family to give a 90 day notice prior to being able to file a lawsuit.
Where is the Justice for this family who lost their primary source of income because of the way that he was treated by law enforcement and EMTs?

(1,142 posts)Perhaps the City Officials need to hear from citizens that are concerned about their lack of response to the family's requests
Still no death certificate, and even after a drug overdose was ruled out as the cause of death the City has tried to blame the victim
Here is another story related to that

(1,142 posts)I think an attorney's son took it. The important thing is that it captures that the victim was placed face down with his hands tied to his feet and was complaining the whole time that he could not breathe and there is documentation and witnesses to those facts
Also the victims wife wanted to go to the hospital where Troy Goode was being taken to and the police told her that if she went to the hospital that she would be arrested, and then later she called the hospital and they told her that her husband was in stable condition and then over an hour later she was informed that he had died
The family has never been given an explanation, a death certificate and is still unable to file a life insurance claim
Here is another story backing up those facts

The family wants to know why Goodes wife could not go with her husband to the hospital that night.
When Kelly was still there at the scene where they had arrested Troy, she said that she wanted to go to the hospital with her husband, McCormack said. One of the police officers there said that if you come to the hospital we are going to arrest you for obstruction of justice.
McCormack and the Goode family have several concerns as they look back on the events that surrounded the night Troy Goode died.
Also in question, how and why Goode, who stood at 6 feet tall and weighed 140 pounds, needed to be hog-tied to be restrained.
If you have a situation where you have police officers and medics on the scene, someone has to be in charge of the patient, McCormack said. Someone has to be in charge of the proper way to restrain him if he needs to be restrained. Someone has to be in charge, and if they can't decide who it is than that in itself is a problem with their procedures.
The family has also had to deal with accusations about what happened that night.
"We don't have the autopsy report. We don't know what caused his death. What we do know is that this was a healthy 30 year old man who was arrested by police, hog-tied, placed face down and then died, McCormack said.

(10,056 posts)It was an exasperated comment about the camera work.
I'm glad it exists at all, but given how much more video makes it to the news, perhaps we need to have a conversation about how to make the video even more effective to remove more of the 'ambiguity' that the justice system injects into these murders by cops.
Thanks for the additional reading material.
