Source: Austin American-Statesman
State District Judge Julie Kocurek, the presiding felony judge for Travis County, was shot in the driveway of her West Austin home late Friday, two law enforcement officials told the American-Statesman.
Kocurek was taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge. Her condition initially was considered critical, but shortly after midnight officials said her condition had been upgraded to stable.
Law enforcement officials have swarmed the area around Kocureks home near Lake Austin looking for an unknown assailant. The search includes dozens of Austin police officers who are searching by both air and ground.

FYI: This is the judge that (temporarily?) presided over the Grand Jury that indicted Rick Perry

(49,002 posts)There may be home surveillance video, car dash cams, ballistic evidence, etc., and other means and clues you and I are not aware of.
Yes it will be difficult, but we don't need defeatist sentiments floating out there.

(16,079 posts)There are many fine police who are still working on many unsolved cases, too!
If this was planned then it's a good bet that the shooter took all of those things into account!
Stayed just out of range of any possible cameras, used a revolver(no shell casings) that can be found in any gun store, there are just as many ways to blur the evidence.

(49,002 posts)... "They are unlikely to find the person since this looks like a planned hit." That removes the certainty and clarifies why you think that way.
As to whether it was a planned hit, as you and another poster feel, if it was well planned then the victim would have died on the spot. Thus there is hope that planning for the evasion and escape will also be less than perfect and there will be enough clues and maybe some sightings of escaping vehicle(s), etc. to catch the assassin.
Misunderstandings can be avoided by writing clearly. The reader only has the words in the post and can't fill in between the lines with the thoughts in your mind.
