France to decree state of emergency, shut borders: Hollande

Source: Reuters

French President Francois Hollande said a state of emergency would be declared across France and national borders shut following a spate of attacks in Paris on Friday evening in which he said dozens were killed and several wounded.

"It is horror," Hollande said in a brief statement on television, adding that a cabinet meeting had been called.

"A state of emergency will be declared," he said. "The second measure will be the closure of national borders," he added.

"We must ensure that no one comes in to commit any act whatsoever, and at the same time make sure that those who have committed these crimes should be arrested if they try to leave the country, he added.

Hollande said he had asked for military reinforcements in the Paris area to ensure that no attack can again take place.

It's sad to see yet another European country react in a xenophobic fashion by throwing up walls when they should be reaching out. Throwing up a stop sign at the border is not going to be effective against this kind of attack anymore than it would be against bad weather.

Even if it's temporary, what kind of message does this send to allies in the region? Their first reaction is to push other countries away when it should be to reach out. It's especially troubling because I can't help but think about the sensitivities of recent Muslim immigrants in the region.

Once he starts talking, he's going to tell them how long his group has been there, and how they got in. If they are natives that got radicalized one day, that's one thing. If he's been there a couple of months and snuck in with the rest of the refugees, that's a whole other kettle of fish. Then the question becomes "How many other groups are there in France? What about other countries? Is Germany hosting a group that's going to go off one day? What about Sweden?"
Being welcoming and friendly right now is the wrong move. Protecting French citizens and peaceful refugees is paramount.

75. Uhm most French Muslims support the burqa ban
Fri Nov 13, 2015, 11:38 PM
Nov 2015
Although critics accused Sarkozy of courting the far-right with his anti-burqa comments, polls show more than 80 percent of voters support the ban.

Many mainstream Muslim leaders in France, while they opposed the law because it targets Muslim women, nevertheless are no fans themselves of the full-face veil and discourage women from wearing it. They recognize the barrier it poses to Muslim assimilation in French society and the fear of Muslims it stirs in the broader population. They also insist that there is no Quranic requirement for women to cover their face. Indeed, wearing the niqab is a practice contested within Islam. The late grand sheikh of al-Azhar in Cairo, Sheikh Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, described the niqab as a "cultural tradition that had nothing to do with Islam." By most counts, of the 5 to 6 million Muslims living in France, fewer than two thousand women wear the full veil. (
An August 2009 French intelligence report estimated the number to be under four hundred.) According to Ministry of Interior estimates, a quarter of women wearing the face cover in France are converts to Islam born into non-Muslim families.

Boko Haram, Hezbollah, Hamas and the rest of those scum sucking mass murderers?

The only things they understand is violence. . .time to give it to them, full blast!

I live in Kuala Lumpur and the Muslims here are completely sickened by the "animals" and "mongrels" in the Middle East. As the Imam in Petaling Jaya told me when we went for coffee: "Don't confuse those pigs with real Muslims." When I asked why this isn't said publicly, he, first, gave me conspiracy theory (because it doesn't fit into the Western narrative as to what a Muslim is) and then the real answer (the animals control people through fear).

I am not a religious person. I am Jewish and a Jew and a Muslim sat in a coffee shop in Petaling Jaya. He said his prayer of mourning. I said the Mourner's Kaddish and he is one of the best men I have ever known.

With that said, when I asked if it is time for the world to step up, he said "It is a muslim problem. Muslims need to do it." Without knowing American idioms, he basically told me Muslims need to do some house-cleaning internally.
