U2 Cancels Saturday Paris Concert That Was To Air As HBO Special
Source: Deadline
In the wake of the horrific terrorist attacks on Paris, U2 has canceled its planned Saturday concert at the citys AccorHotels Arena that HBO was going to tape live to air delayed in primetime in the U.S.
As a result of the ongoing state of emergency across France, the U2 Paris concert scheduled for 14th November will not be going ahead as planned, said the band in a statement. U2 and Live Nation, along with HBO who were due to live broadcast the Saturday concert, are fully resolved to go ahead with this show at an appropriate time.
The premium cabler planned to show the concert special at 9 PM ET on Saturday. No word yet on whether Sundays show at the same venue will go on as planned or if the premium network will film that one. We do know that the 2014 Clint Eastwood directed film Jersey Boys will be shown in the concerts slot.
We watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in Paris and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city tonight, U2 said from Paris where they played on November 10 and 11 and are also scheduled to play on the 15th. We are devastated at the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and our thoughts and prayers are with the band and their fans. And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe.

The biggest tour going on across Europe right now. There will be lots of headlines like this for weeks, not just for Paris, but the entire continent and beyond, out of respect to the dead and fear for the safety of bands and their fans.
I doubt anyone wants to book a concert hall in Paris for quite some time.

(930 posts)This sounds like the opportunity for another "song of innocence" from these overhyped mediocrities.
Seriously? How craven can one be?
And no, I don't accept your "with due respect".
Show some basic human decency and STFU.

(3,194 posts)Besides the fact this was a pathetic comment, the members of U2 happen to be left of center, and Bono is very much a humanitarian, so bashing them on DU is unfounded.

The guy's done more to personally profit off other people's tragedy by recording songs about those tragedies and putting the proceeds in his own pocket than anybody in the past 30 years. What's given of his own time and money to humanitarian causes and charity is a drop in the sea compared to what's he's profited off the tragedies he sings about.
Sir Bob Geldof he's not. Just because he's left-of-center and donates a pittance of what he's earned off his faux-humanitarianism to charity doesn't make him a good person or above being called out on his exploitation of victims of political violence for personal gain.
