(26,293 posts)and are hoping to trick countries like France into sending actual troops to the Middle East with the goal of providing a more fertile ground to recruit more nutjobs.
After all the drones dont provide a face of the enemy for which to use to recruit people with but real live troops on the ground do and also people think of actual troops on the ground in their country more of as an invasion than they do a drone which they probably rarely see.

An online statement said eight militants armed with explosive belts and automatic weapons attacked carefully chosen targets in the "capital of adultery and vice," including a soccer stadium where France was playing Germany, and the Bataclan concert hall, where an American rock band was playing, and "hundreds of apostates were attending an adulterous party."
The statement said France and its supporters "will remain at the top of the list of targets of the Islamic State."
"The stench of death will not leave their noses as long as they remain at the forefront of the Crusaders' campaign, dare to curse our prophet, boast of a war on Islam in France, and strike Muslims in the lands of the caliphate with warplanes that were of no use to them in the streets and rotten alleys of Paris," it said.
France is part of the U.S.-led coalition that has been striking the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq for the past year, and has been targeted by jihadists in the past because of its perceived tolerance of speech deemed offensive to Islam..............

(129,063 posts)this didn't seem like that group but more like Al Qaeda (which seemed to be tentatively tossed out there with all the analyses going on overnight). Both groups are at odds but I wouldn't rule Al Qaeda out from having some sort of involvement - mainly due to this tragedy having occurred using Al Qaeda's signature tactic of highly-coordinated simultaneous attacks.

ISIS/ISIL/IS is what western media has called them and they've called themselves in communications targeted to western audiences; Daesh is what they call themselves locally to themselves and in communications targeted to ME audiences.

(2,841 posts)this is a cry of a dying cult. ISIS may be shrinking in Iraq and Syria, but there will always be lone wolves who are inspired by this twisted and worthless cult. SO technically ISIS may be responsible, but they sure as hell aren't an omnipresent power that they claim to be.
