U.N. nuclear chief says Iran agrees to probe of suspected weapons work

The official gives no details on when the agreement will be signed, and he says some details remain to be ironed out.

VIENNA -- The chief of the U.N. nuclear agency said Tuesday that he has reached a deal with Iran on probing its suspected work on nuclear weapons and that the agreement will "be signed quite soon."

Yukiya Amano, the International Atomic Energy Agency director general, said some details still needed to be worked out. But he told reporters that Iranian officials said those points will not stand in the way of signing the deal.

Amano spoke on return from Tehran, after talks on resuming a long-stalled probe into suspicions that Iran secretly worked on developing nuclear weapons.

Amano did not give a date for signing the agreement, which came as negotiators head to Baghdad for a second round of talks on the Iranian nuclear program.
