Samurai sword-swinging attacker targets Apple store packed with customers in New York

Source: The Mirror

A man walked into a packed Apple store in New York and started swinging a samurai sword at customers, cops said.

Police said Hsu Chien, 30, walked into the Fifth Avenue Apple Store and threatened suicide before drawing the sword and whirling it around.

Chien, who wore a hat and sunglasses during the rampage, dropped the sword on the stairs, but then picked it up and continued swinging it around.

Customers were not worried - with one thinking he was a performance artist - until he swung the katana at customers and began counting down as though he had a bomb, sending them scurrying for the emergency exit.

He was demonstrating how not to handle live steel and gently pressed it on his arm -- he must have twitched, but in any case ended up in the ER with a wound that took months to heal. The doc in the ER said he'd never seen such a clean deep slice from anything that was not a scalpel.

I would not hang around a store where someone was swinging a sword around -- bad idea for performance art because you really do not know if the performer in question is a nutcase.
