Suspect in Planned Parenthood shooting in custody

Source: Denver Post

COLORADO SPRINGS — Police have detained one suspect following a shooting and standoff at a Planned Parenthood clinic that spanned five hours.

The suspect, a man, was detained at 4:52 p.m. The Colorado Springs mayor's office confirmed on Twitter that the suspect was in custody. He was seen being escorted by police out of the clinic in handcuffs. According to police radio transmissions, the suspect told officers that he acted alone.

The shooting injured at least 11 people, including at least five police officers, after a gunman walked into a Colorado Springs branch of Planned Parenthood on Friday and began shooting. It was unclear whether there were any fatalities.

What a contrast, unarmed African Americans are shot and killed walking down the street, but an apparent five hour negotiation situation with this suspect.

Peace

They weren't able to talk to him until the last few minutes. Throughout the day, he was on the move. At the end he was holed up in a storage room and holding hostages there. They didn't blast their way in because then some or all of the hostages could have been injured or killed.

Most of the day, they were figuring out where he was -- he was on the move and shooting at them any time they had him in sight. They worked around him and evacuated staff and patients one room at a time.

They weren't able to talk to him until they were close enough to shout through the walls of the room he was in. Then he surrendered.

And they were prepared to kill him at any time from the time he came out of the room. They clearly said on the scanner that they'd take him out at the first sign of an ied. And then on the scanner asked if they were in the way of the snipers.

I was reading one of the right wing sites to get the other perspective. One guy was saying that he doesn't give a crap about the lives of PP employees. It sickened me to see that.
